Status: offline 		We were bordering on a thread hijack so I thought I would start a new thread instead.

so wax play... what do you love about it and what are some things that those that are experienced would warn the rest of us about?

My first waxing as a bottom my reaction was "AHHHHHH........that feels good...." I have been fortunate to have seen great demos and to have someone teach me the ropes. I still consider myself very new to it, but plan to change that...

Wax Play

Wax Play
This is my general wax play design, easily modifiable if you want to
include multiple people.

Supplies: wax, long tip lighter, sheet or tarp, baby oil, knife,
baby powder, blindfold, (if using a crock pot, ladle, spatula,
paintbrush, any other spreading toys that look interesting)

Get the wax: Either two blocks of paraffin and two glassed church
candles melted together in a crock pot, or just the church candles
for easier transporting. I haven't noticed much temperature
derivation using these types of candles, but white wax is harder to
see where it falls and green tends to just look black on a person.
Start prep at least 2 hours before the scene by lighting the candles
or starting the wax to melt. If the candles are cold, it will take
longer and the wax won't melt as evenly

Prep the area: Flat surface is necessary, a bondage or massage
table usually works fine and is padded. Outside is nice because you
don't have to worry about getting wax on anything. If you are on
the floor, put a flannel sheet or comforter down first to keep
things from being too cold. Cover with an old sheet or tarp, and if
you're off the floor, cover the area nearby as well. Wax will get
everywhere! Lay out all supplies beforehand, you don't want to have
to leave burning candles or naked person alone too long. Also, make
sure your area is well-heated. Even though the wax will get them
warm and give them a nice shell, when it comes off they will feel
the cooler air.

Prep the people: Don't wear your good fetish gear! Again, wax will
get everywhere. For the waxer, wear throw away clothes and/or an
apron. For the waxee, get them naked and blindfolded. I like to
have their focus totally on the wax sensations and you don't have to
worry about wax splattering into eyes. Lay them down on the
surface, starting stomach down usually works best.

Start the scene: Start to connect with the bottom by massaging
their skin, letting them relax into position and get used to your
touch. Massage the baby oil onto their skin. Not only does this
feel yummy, but prevents wax from painfully sticking to hair and
makes it much easier to peel or scrape off. Once you're fully into
the scene, you can get into the wax.

Waxing: I start generally about 18 inches above the persons skin.
Get a good full layer all over their body. Be careful about
dripping on the sides as the skin is more sensitive. Once you've
established an initial layer, you can have more fun with sensations,
bringing the wax lower or higher to build heat (the higher the wax,
the more the splatter). You can paint the wax on, let it drip
slowly or just wash it over them with a ladle. The feet are also
lots of fun. On the stomach, be careful of the belly button.
Sometimes it's good just to put a plug of wax in there or cover it
with a cotton ball.

Removing wax: Wax is likely to still be slightly soft and pliable.
If you're peeling the wax, getting as much in one motion is a very
awesome feeling for the sub. Slowly start at the edges and pull up,
gathering the wax as you go. If you scrape, just press down gently
and pull towards the wax and down. There's always a few drips and
splatters to scrape off. If you've used oil, it should come off
fairly easily. Don't try to get off every piece of wax- a good
shower will do the best job at that.

After the wax: Once you've removed the wax, I sprinkle babypowder
all over the skin. The skin is very sensitive at this point and the
cool softness of the powder feels like rose petals just falling
down. You can rub the powder in and smooth over the skin. This
will help dry off some of the oil as well.

If you want to reuse your sheet, put it in the freezer to freeze the
wax, take it outside and get as much as you can off by shaking or
pulling it. Then toss in the washer and drier to remove the rest.

Status: offline 		best part of wax play for me is having it removed with a knife...not really all that into temperature play...heat or cold...

edited to add: from the topside...its fun to make designs with different colored wax once a solid sheet of white parafin has been applied then peeling it off in one piece...

Status: offline 		I have used different types of candles...Some burn much hotter...Does anyone know what the difference is?...Different types of wax?

Edited...Cleaning wax out of the short and curlies is not a lot of fun. But can be interesting...Shaved is better.

Status: offline 		Generally, scented is bad and beeswax is VERY bad.

As I said in my essay, I use half paraffin, half large candle wax.  A lot of people say color effects the temperature, I personally have not found that to be much of an issue at all.  Color more to me effects how well I can see it on the body (I avoid white or clear wax).

Edited- paraffin helps because it's more oily and helps less sticking.  As well, it's highly recommended to massage a layer of oil onto any surface with hair unless you want the painful hair pulling sticky flakes of wax forever experience.  It can add a bit of heat to the wax on the skin so that needs to be accounted for.

I've had excellent results with templates made from acetate and the upside is the acetate can be used over and over again. I use a paintbrush to brush on the wax over the skin and the edges of the template prevents the wax from seeping outside the lines. Then just peel off the template before the wax dries for some really beautiful effects. I usually use a flame template with my yellows & reds but have used daisy's, dots, stripes and even did a dragon once. Once on the skin, the colors tend to 'wash' or fade a bit so what looks very red in the wax pot will come out more like pink on the skin once it's dried so that's something to keep in mind when you're mixing up your colors. When using a paintbrush, I generally blow on the skin as I work since you have to work fairly quickly from pot to skin and blowing helps prevent too much heat from blistering the epidermis.

Wax pots are my first choice for melting. They're reusuable, not too shallow but wide so a paintbrush works perfectly with them and don't take up a lot of space but mainly, they're really cheap and if you fuck them up, you can just toss them without it costing you an arm and a leg. Wax pots generally come in packs of 4 or 6 so one purchase can get you through several scenes. Waxing appeals to the artist in me and I adore painting so it's the perfect medium for me.

edited to add: A nice hot shower after a wax scene should take care of the residual leavings you haven't been able to peel or scrap away. :)

Status: offline 		I love wax play! Tips already I agree with ... in addition, I love to freehand "paint" or write with My wax ... MJs SLUT across the butt cheeks is always popular! Playing noughts and crosses with another trusted Dom/me at a play party can be a lot of fun too. I don't tend to go in for the full coverage thing, most often too hot here in Australia to make that practicable from an overheating point of view. Have to be careful when mummifying in plasticwrap, but at least that can be cut off quickly with safety scissors if sub gets too hot. So I just love taking My time and writing and painting till they are beautifully decorated. Haven't tried stencils ... thanks for that tip! Quite like flogging it off ... best done outside or stand your sub on a BIG dropsheet.

I adore wax play. It's one of my favorite types of pain because it's a sting and then a "ooooo that feels good" tingle. I think one of my best memories from a play party was having three different dominants with different colored candles making artwork out of me! And of course, if you are nutty like us the removal can be so delightful as well. Valyraen uses one of his favorite blades to carefully peel the wax away.

I have a question about flogging it off, I know that the wax has time to congeal, but is it solid enough to use one of your good floggers?

those that have tought me have given me the following

1 always use some kind of oil
2 scented pariffin is usuable, but it still adds heat.
3 always test the wax, if it is too hot for the palm of your hand, it defanatly is too hot for someone's back, breasts, stomach etc.
4 pealing the wax off can be as much fun as putting it on, dont approach it like a chore.

I'd give it half an hour or so to cool. I'm sure something can be thought of to occupy the time!

I would not use any "good toys" on a waxed person until they were thoroughly showered off.  But that's what "old used second tier" toys are for :)

Personally wax play already makes enough of a mess that I'm not going to let them move around or do much to them until I've thoroughly cleaned them up.  So this isn't something I'd consider unless I was outdoors and mess didn't matter.

Yes, but remember that "too hot" at 12 inches isn't the same as "too hot" at 18 inches.  Height adds cooling time and splatter.  "Too hot" is also very different at one layer vs 3 layers vs all layers JUST removed vs under breasts vs top of knees, etc etc.

Status: offline 		Hi ~ wax is a favorite and we did a good albeit short wax scene at a party on our girl christina just Saturday (combined w neeedles and knives!)

Just a few added ideas and cautions -

the tall parafin in glass candles are good since you can light and allow to burn a long time to get lots of melted wax
votives in glass votive jars are not good as you forget and tend to dump the entire candle out on the subbie - not good!
baby oil helps get it off easier, but some bottoms report enjoying the sensation of removal with a knife when there was no wax first

neither Argetn nor myself get messy as tops, and we use a lot lot lot of wax, don't know how we manage not to mess up our clothes but it seems OK

bees wax is HOT - dangerously hot -  darker colors are hotter, glitter candles have metal flakes to make the glitter, birthday candles have a different type if wick that can burn faster and remain as ash and fall off and make a really BAD burn for something so small. yes, experience here - 2nd degree burn that lasted over 6 weeks to heal even with good burn care!

Glossy candles are made with carnuba wax - burns very very hot

a small crock pot is a great addition to wax play set up

if you have room and can make a big mess - "throwing" wax at a standing sub is fun and makes really pretty designs

always be aware of the flame and where it might be creating heat ... dripping wax on a seated or standing subbies tits/chest is fun but be aware of their face/hair in relation to the candle flame

*** what we did Saturday night ***
It was an anniversary party for a group we organized, so we had our girl kneel and we began with some knife play and breath play and then had her lay down on the massage table.  We cover the massage table with a big piece of golf vinyl i bought just for wax play and then she lays on a towel since the vinyl makes a perso really sweaty.

She laid face down and we both spanked her a bit and used a knife some more and got her flying good.  Everyone was watching her.  We had some 22 ga 1 1/2 inch needles and earlier I had prepped them by taking a birthday candle and 'sharpening ' the end just a bit and pushing the candle into the hub of the needle.  Argent put 4 accupuncture needles in her bottom and then he put 9 birthday candle needles in and then 4 more accupuncture needles.  Then I lit the candles and we sang Happy Birthday and everyone blew her out!  Then a few friends joined me for some wax dripping and then Argent and I used very sharp knives to remove the wax.  It was great fun!

I wish I had "second tier" toys. I am still building the toybag as it is.

good point, the person that I worked with hates spatter so she hasnt shown me mush about raising the ladle very high.

I think there was a small miscommunication here. I love pealing it off. I was stating it more or less the same way that it was stated to me.
