I'm watching the pre-race 'festivities' for the MotoGP race at Laguna Seca and can't help but wonder why someone would agree to sing the national anthem if they didn't KNOW ALL THE WORDS.

Unbelievable.

well no one seems to know the melody, why should they know the words?

The idea of the R&B style "run" makes me shudder. When my voice students would start doing that, I would make them write me an essay on ornamentation and why they were not qualified to use it.

If you don't know all the words you get more publicity.

Maybe they thought it would be like karaoke and the words would scroll by.

Yes, only here you get to pick the melody! How is that for service?

I was going to ask who the offending "singer" was, but I won't becuase I wouldn't want to the answer to provide that publicity.

Yes, I think the race is over.

Or are you referring to attempts to sing the national anthem?

The poor singer needs the publicity - he is better known as the "son of" rather than for his own talent.
