ThunderRoad -> What to look for in a strap on harness / setup (8/30/2007 7:50:24 AM)

We are looking for a good strap on harness fo use on a female sub, and we're not entirely sure what features and quality elements we should be looking for.  Did a search here but didn't find much info on what to look for, more just some references towards "get this one" or some such.

Probably going to buy locally or at the upcoming Kinky Kollege, just not sure what we should look for.

Goood  morning,
In my personal somewhat limited experience, I have found that the rubber jock harness from Aslan leather is a  superior harness, its very secure, as it has straps that go around the hips and thighs, which is wonderful for those delicious vigorous moments, and its wonderful for the bath/shower/jacuzzi. You can use a double ended dildo in it, or a regular type, but it will not keep in a butt toy. OH and it comes in two sizes, depending on the wearers hips(up to 56inch), its fully adjustable too.
Generally, if the wearer is more slender, any of the thong or hip kind can work and are cheap enough in price to let you figure out what you like and what you dont. Have a look to see if it has a butt toy holder  with it, also see if it has adjustable o rings to hold different diameter dongs. I would go with one with straps and buckles rather than elastic, but that because of comfort, especially having huge huggable hips, the elastic ones tend to dig in,  or pull down with the weight of the dildo. There are so many kinds out there, good luck in your hunt

I second the recommendation for a jock-style harness and avoiding elastic.  You want the dildo to not flop around, and to respond to your movements, so you need it to be secure and comfortable. Elastic has too much give and you lose control.

As to which exact harness you get, so much depends on individual taste and comfort... you need to consider who will be wearing it and select for comfort and control.

If a woman is going to be wearing the strap-on, I really do like the double-ended dildos that are specifically made to provide good clitoral stimulation. I like the Nexus, which you can find by Googling for "nexus double dildo".  If you don't go for a double-ended, you will need a flared-base dildo. I personally prefer the ones without the sculpted balls when using a harness - the flat flared base type sit more firmly in the O-ring.

Another possibility is a thigh harness, of which there are a couple of varieties. The one that gives the best control for me is the type that looks like a sports brace, made of neoprene, though I find it esthetically wanting and it will only take a limited diameter of dildo. (Google for "dildo thigh harness" to find several types).  With two women, two of these is really nice, one on each of you. I get better control with this type of harness than with even the best jock-style harnesses.  And for me, as a woman with wide hips, I think it's most comfortable for my partners using the thigh harness. For a woman on the receiving end, they can really grind against your thigh as well, making for good clitoral stimulation for her.

I have no idea what the best type of strap-on would be for a man wearing the harness, but again I'd suggest control and comfort.

Sounds like your girl is in for a good time!

Stormy Leather makes one called the Terra Firma. Great harness. I also make one custom for friends only, which I've found works amazing with both the dildo's with flared bases, and even those with balls. I recently gave my design to hottbonds, so you may want to contact them if you'd like to find out about it.  I dunno if he's made one yet or not, but he's got the design.  One of my harnesses was actually used for a video with Meninpain.com.  I was proud, and all the people I've made them for love them.  I make it with a leather plate on the front, and the rest of it is done with mountaineering nylon webbing, makes it VERY easy to clean. Saddle soap the plate, throw the nylon in a laundry bag and wash it, then let the nylon air dry.

Oh boy. My favorite subject!! I and my wife are strap-on conesuers. We probably have enough dildos and rigs to open up our own shop. Anyways, i agree with the above mentioned posts. Jock style is the way to go. It allows for a lot more control than a thong style. Most "rigs" you will find will either be leather or nylon and fasten with D-rings or Buckles.I dont think that matter except for the fact D-rings or something similar are easier to adjust on the fly. Babeland.com offers a variety of quality strap-on gear and in my opinion they offer the best availible on the web. I also recomend get something with a rubber ring rather than a metal ring to attach the dildo because in my experience the metal breaks them. Just regular rubber cock rings substitute nicely. Hope that gets ya started. If you find you have anymore specific questions let me know. I will be happy to answer. Oh by the way, they also make harnesses specifically for male wearers. I have seen them at my local shop but I am unsure if babeland has them.

They are a little harder to find but my favorite after having tried many is the soft machine washable, jock style from Spare Parts. Vixencreations.com and goodvibrations.com both carry them.

Leather harnesses last a long time but cleaning can become a problem. Vinyl cleans better but lacks the feel of leather. Synthetic leather is a good compromise, but not perfect. A four point anchor system (four straps connecting to the dildo focal point) will provide better stability with less undesirable movement. A harness that can incorporate a feeldoe dildo will add stability while providing dual pleasure to both the thruster and the thrustee. Have fun and remember lots of lubrication.
