Perplex -> moral north; seeking opinions on religious scenes (8/30/2007 9:17:57 AM)

I've been asked to do a religous scene for a friend of a friend, full on nun, priests, yadda yadda yadda, I mentioned this to my partner and then another friend, one who is ultra religious in her chosen faith the other who uses holy text as rolling papers and they both stunned me by agreeing it was a bad idea...on the lines of sacralidge( I guess if I can't spell it I shoudln't do it)

to me a scene is a scene and as long as no "valid" objects are harmed during the scene (even I woudln't probably go peepee on an altar) it's just so much RP, but their reaction really shocked me so I thought I'd throw it open to get other input. I guess I wanna understand if it is *wrong* why is it wrong, if it isn't real, then where is the harm.

Everyone has things that squick them and things that get them hot (and sometimes both at the same time).  It would be wrong for me if it went against someone's sense of self.  Whether that's religious or not is irrelevant.

A lot of people use bdsm as a spiritual experience and enjoy it very much.  Taking existing spiritual experiences and morphing them into kinky experiences can be a difficult thing for some, but very powerful and necessary for others.

RCdc -> RE: moral north; seeking opinions on religious scenes (8/30/2007 9:27:00 AM)

I find religious scenes and playing or sex in a religious area or building perfectly acceptable and it's a fairly hot scene.  Most people have something that squicks them, use of religion is not different - which is kind of ironic considering they wouldn't think twice about foot or cock worship...(as an example)

Religion iconism is a big part of my fetish life.  If that bothers people, that is their problem.  For me is rocks.

To me it seems the same as actors playing preists etc. on TV/movies in sacriligious ways.  Do your same friends disapprove of the making and watching of these movies?  It is a role play activity.  If nothing is officially sanctified, I don't see a problem with it.  Okay, I suppose the explicit purpose of sexual gratification adds an extra element, but there are many forms of selfish gratification and intentions involved in the making of movies too, so I don't see a meaningful difference.  That isn't to say that maybe both are wrong...  Hm, too early in the morning, I'll get back to you after I've had my coffee.  I should also confess that I'm not of the mind of accepting a personified God, but I did go to Catholic school for years, so I understand and respect it.

e01n -> RE: moral north; seeking opinions on religious scenes (8/30/2007 10:04:30 AM)

Actually, if I roleplay/cosplay with people... it's generally a religious scene. I make a great Father Confessor/Inquisitor, I've been told. [;)]

Do I see it as "wrong"? No more wrong than the thing being characturized... Sacreligious? In some ways, definitely. I mean, the act of a "nun" offering blow jobs as penance for "impure thoughts" is moderately "naughty" but hardly truly blasphemous on a grand scale.

I'm stumped.

If those involved are not offended, then I fail to see how it is a bad idea (unless they're suggesting god will hurl a thunderbolt or two your way, but that speaks of faith in that kind of deity).

mistoferin -> RE: moral north; seeking opinions on religious scenes (8/30/2007 10:26:41 AM)

See now, that is one area that I just can not go....way too much Catholic upbringing pounded into this brain.

If the participants are ok with it, then I guess I wouldn't worry too much about what others think.

velvetears -> RE: moral north; seeking opinions on religious scenes (8/30/2007 10:34:28 AM)

i had someone ask me once if i would agree to be fucked by a crucifix and besides the idea of a square hard thing with edges to it that would not feel very good, the idea that it is sacriledge did also keep it in my taboo bin as well.

Playing a nun or priest doesn't do much for my turn on button but if i had a dom who really had a thing for it and he wanted it, sure.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: moral north; seeking opinions on religious scenes (8/30/2007 10:38:32 AM)

Well the fact is most of us do things all the time that are completely sacriligious to some particular religious or personal belief system out there.  Doing it with the INTENT to take a religious/personally significant concept and add it into the kinky bin tends to upset people- but only if they personally have taken THAT concept on as significant to them.

And for some people, the significance and intent is what makes it such a great thing to do.  As long as people realize it's their own personal irrational issues, it's all good.

OK, I know this wasn't my greatest idea, but will you at least spin your head around and vomit on me, Regan?

Why not capitalize the 'him' in that statement?  Isn't that just a tad sacreligious?

I just copy & pasted from the script... sorry. I'll go edit it... [;)]

ExSteelAgain -> RE: moral north; seeking opinions on religious scenes (8/30/2007 10:51:41 AM)

I can intellectualize and say I would do anything without regards to violating religious tenets to make a scene better, but I value religion to an extent and don’t want to detract from it. I think we need someone to perform weddings, funerals and give us rules for good and bad even if it is all BS. Why would I attack ceremonies I value? I wouldn’t make a sub do anything sacrilegious. The "no other Master" but me part, pisses me off a little, but she knows what is real and what isn’t.

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: moral north; seeking opinions on religious scenes (8/30/2007 10:57:25 AM)

The question is "what defines attacking a belief"?

Thank You, Mr H Fuckin Christ, for dying so that I may sin.

OP; sounds hot to me.  Not too many centuries ago, religious ceremonies actually included sex.  I know, the horror, right?  I was laughing a bit when I watched an episode of Rome, where Vorenus and his wife were expected to 'consecrate' their new farmland, by fornicating on it in front of all and sundry.  It was a frigging party.

I think if you flip through the New Testament, you'll find Jesus doesn't address sex a whole helluva lot.  He focuses on love, joy, tolerance, acceptance, etc.  It's all the other dried up bastards who seemed to want to make the 'act' of love, into an act of sin.  I don't buy it.  If you don't either, than you can borrow my bible from over here.

slavegirljoy -> RE: moral north; seeking opinions on religious scenes (8/30/2007 11:59:54 AM)

This is how i look at it, also.  There was one Dom who i used to see regularly, who would often start out by telling me to "confess your sins to me" and i would say, "Forgive me father, for i have sinned" and then i would tell him every bad thing i had done, since the last time i had seen him, and then we would punish me.  It was quite the turn-on for me.  We were both Methodists, although he had stopped going to church.  If this would cause me to burn in Hell for all eternity, i'm already gone, any way, since i have sinned far worse than that.  Won't go into detail but, fortunately for me, i don't feel hopelessly condemned because i do believe in redemption, by the grace of God.

"In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace."—Ephesians 1:7

It's also not a sin to go to church, wearing no panties or bra under my dress, which i have had to do before and then have to give a full report about the sermon, afterward.  That was exciting to me, as well.

apettiger -> RE: moral north; seeking opinions on religious scenes (8/30/2007 12:24:24 PM)

i am spiritual but not religious in the least. i am sacreligious with my own beliefs, but am very careful not to overtly offend anyone who is religious.
my great-great-great grandmother told me when i was about 9 that anything consenting, human adults agree to do in private is no ones business but theirs, as long as everyone involved or affected by what happens is consenting, human and adult.
modify it if you will, but there it is.
