Umm...am I missing something? It was a legitimate business enterprise, and the city government can't simply shut down legitimate business enterprises in order to widen highways--not without compensation, anyway. Where's the scandal? I don't see it.

Is everything suppose to be a scandal? The state paid (or overpaid) and now the state owns some kinky equipment. I find it amusing.

But I guess it was an offer they couldn't refuse. It wouldn't matter what "fixtures" were left behind, the state's interest is in the property. You think thats funny, you should check out some of the website names that the government legaly owns due to various court cases ..... Also reminds me that about 10 years back or so, a strip club owner in StLouis was busted on tax fraud. The IRS took the club and decided to keep it open untill they had earned back enough money to cover the cost of owed back-taxes ...... Government sponcered lapdances anybody? :)

This could open up entirely unique possibilities for changing how government is run. Politicians would think twice about abusing their privileges like some petulent child if they knew a date with a spanking bench was the consequence. Then again some are probably already into it. All the same it would have been interesting to have offered our dear late comptroller the choice between resigning or submitting to a long and generous session of CBT.

NYC Used to have all the hot clubs , the lure , the vault , hell fire , justines , DeSades , Paddles i think the only one still going is Paddles and that was always the best anyway . Even the Noose closed a clothing toy store . DV8 was a bummer loss for me .Any Party The Barroness throws is a great one .. I was in NYC 2-3 times or more a year just for the clubs and shopping and events back then .. yeah those were the days .

I'd call it pretty hilarious too; given inflated prices in Manhatten it sounds a lot worse than it is, but I'd have done the same thing as far as nickel and diming for compensation. Just another, last business opportunity to squeeze cash out, and I think the VV had some fun with it. The article is tongue in cheek and it's pretty apparent the editorial staff were snickering. Probably at the worried movie star who wasn't named!
