Heaven is being with God.

You can have it on earth-but it's not easy.

Susan, your version sounds pretty good!
I don't think that people would be sitting around praying all day or worshiping Saints. That wouldn't be much "fun" would it?
And, at "The Pearly Gates" they'd have comedians like Rodney Dangerfield and George Burns to welcome people.
I think Heaven would be a "fun" place where you could basically do anything you want.

I think so, too, popeye. It is supposed to be a very fun and happy place, IMO.

Susan, the way the Nuns explained it I wasn't so sure I wanted to go to their version of "Heaven."
The way (they) explained it it sounded like perpetual Sunday school!
Praying, worshiping, genuflecting, sacrificing!
No thanks!
I can hear God now; "Will you fuckin' Catholic Nuns knock that shit off!"
"We're here to PARTY!!!"
I think God would tire of having his arse kissed all the time.

I think our souls become pure again, like when we are first born, maybe even first conceived.  All of the learned prejudices are gone.  All of the mis-trust, the greed, the need for material things.  Mental and emotional health is restored.  There is no need for envy or jealousy because in heaven everyone has access to the same things.

I have always had a hard time believing  that this is the only trip that we get to make to life, inspite of a protestant upbringing.  And I also have thought that "eternity" could get really boring after the first century or two.  So I came up with the idea that heaven could be some kind of an amusement park.  Everyone is there having a good time, playing the games, walking around.  Running into people they know.  Talking, laughing, reminiscing.  Like any amusement park there are rides, and you get to choose which ride you want to go on.  One time you might choose the non-eventful merry-go-round, and the next time you get on the big rollercoaster with lots of ups and downs and loop-di-loops.  I don't know that I really believe that this is what heaven is like, but it's just something I thought-up one day.

All I gotta ask is: "Are you Rapture Ready?"

LOL, L&M, I don't know where those "Rapture People" go.
Probably close to where the Catholic Nuns go so they can be miserable together.

Eternal and pure consciousness. Truth and clarity, less darkness.

Why I * know what heaven is.
I wake up every day and experiance it.

I am not really religious but i think heaven and hell are in the eye of the beholder, i think both can be right around us everyday, heaven is spending a single moment with someone you care for more than yourself, or being with your family, your dog, or just being in that place doing that thing that makes you ultimatley relaxed, for me that would be sitting at the waterway with my best friend on a crystal clear night not saying a word listening to the water and looking at the sky in a place where there is no light is So relaxing, even to think about it, Hell sometimes can be with that very same person. or not.

and ya i take that example from my life so blah.

CuriousLord -> RE: What do you think "Heaven" is like? (9/2/2007 2:00:34 AM)

It's quite possible to use a technology to cause one bliss, should our technology advance much further.  Say, nanobots, providing chemical stimulus in the appropriate parts of the mind.  While this technology is currently beyond us, it wouldn't be beyond a god.  Compensations for boredom, any drives or motivations, any lack of happiness- it's not one of those things were someone would grow tired of it, as it alters the very ability of one to grow tired of it.

This is to say, it's technologically possible to force perfect and unfettered bliss on one.  Well, provided you can keep them alive- you know, feeding and such.  And making sure metors don't crash into the planet and destroy it.  Or they don't get cancer.  (This is to say, one would have to first make them immortal.)  But, in the notion of Heaven, people (or "souls") are already immortal, so.. well, that's not a problem.

In any case, Heaven could be anything someone who designs it would want to be.  And, provided this bit of "bliss" is added in, humans could be quite happy cutting their own bodies into little bits for all eternity.

There's no real solution outside of the notion that many things could've been possible, if immortality and unlimited resources were.

PS-  My typo rate is telling me I need sleep.

Ever since I saw that film Flat liners I’ve been worried there is a load of killer ice hockey players waiting for me in the afterlife.
