G/greetings (Is that right???)

Okay, I see people "greeting" and giving "greetings" all over the net in forums, emails, chat . . .you name it. It's a very common accurance. I *never* see it in r/t. Have I just been sheltered or are many of you having the same experience?

What do you mean?

Greetings as in introductions? They happen offline, just in a different way. You get the basic intro "hi, my name is x, my partner is y, my job is z, and I like a" but much more slowly through casual conversation.

Online, you tend to see a quick self-blurb. I think this is prevelant, among other reasons, because we lack visual clues which tell us these things.

No no no

I mean when people say "Greetings!"
Look in the intro area. . or in chat room

Greetings Princess.... *grins*

Sorry - just a habit - in the UK people use the word greetings, hello, welcome, and hiya - hi isn't usually used(I find) - maybe it's a language thing. I use it alot not just here but in real life - it's never been a problem and Demon and I have never had funny looks or been questioned over it.

So, for us, its a commen occurance.

Peace and Love

Greetings and salutations.... so long and thanks for all the fish ..... You ever read any Douglas Adams?

Greetings....standard Gorean salutation.... You ever read any John Norman?

In a chat room, it's overdone.

On a message board, I say hi if I'm addressing someone spesifically, or am feeling particularly chatty.

We do it in real life too. When I get to a party/gathering the first thing I do is go around and say hello to everyone.

LOL. . .perverse, I still don't think you get what I'm saying. . .I mean. . do people *actually* come up to other people and say "Greetings!"

I personally have never been "greeted" like that. People have usually stuck the conventional greetins such as "Hi. How are you doing?" I've never felt compelled to go up to someone because they are in the "lifestyle" (whatever that means) and say "Greetings."

Just wondering if I'm missing out. And by the way. . .should "Greetings!" Be followed by "Live long and prosper!" or something?

Heh. Y'k,now why I didn't get it?

Because that's probably the most common greeting I use. :) I'm more likely to say it than hi or hello.

Then again, I also regularly use "huzzah" to express my happiness/

Okay,

If you said "Greetings" to me. . .I'm sure I'll find it cute. . . .especially in r/t. I'm sure if some middle aged man came to me on his knees wrapped in furs and said "Greetings!". . .I'd have dry heaves.

Mangy fur is bad news.

If I saw someone with mangy fur I would report them to PETA or some other group to throw red paint on them.

Edit:

Oh, and Greetings.
