That's the fight song for the Michigan football team, who lost to Appalachan State today. They're calling it one of the greatest victories by an underdog of all time -- Appalachian State isn't even one of the 119 teams in Divion 1, while Michigan was starting the season ranked around #5.

It was great -- Michigan took the lead with about 4 minutes left, then App State fought back and got the lead back with about 30 seconds to go. Michagan then connected on a long desperation pass that put them within easy field goal distance . . . and it was BLOCKED!

HA! I hate Michigan.

I can't believe it. I stopped following the game with about 4 minutes to go..... goodbye, Lloyd Carr!

Big Ten is the most overrated conference in college football.

The Buckeyes get blown up by Florida in the title game last year. And now Michigan goes down to a I-AA team.

I wish I could find the parody of the Michigan fight song.  sigh.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Hail To The Victors! (9/1/2007 9:34:18 PM)

I was JUST about to say...can you believe those fuckups in Ann Arbor lost to a Division I-AA team in their FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON?  Except we can't call it Division I-AA anymore.

I'm originally FROM Michigan and i detest the football team.   Most likely why i went to Notre Dame.   UGHZ!  and they got stomped today by Georgia Tech.
Note a good sign for opening day....blah!

Yeah, remind me why Ty Willingham was fired again?

*sighz*
After seeing TODAY's performance....damn good question.  They will never have coaches like Ara/Lou again..... (in "my" opinion)

Lordandmaster -> RE: Hail To The Victors! (9/1/2007 11:02:15 PM)

OK, then allow me to answer my own question.  Ty Willingham was fired because he was too black and didn't do enough self-promotion.  All the sanctimonious crap about how Ty's "expectations" didn't mesh with those of Notre Dame was a nicely coded way of saying he wasn't one of us.  The morons at Notre Dame decided that if they're going to go down, they're going to go down with one of their own.  Congratulations, now they have Charlie Weis till what, 2020?  Normally I'm not a big fan of Dan LeBatard, but he has Charlie Weis absolutely pegged.  A big self-promoting gasbag who's never won a thing.

You're preachin' to the choir there LaM.  I and many people i know agree with with you just wrote.
As i stated above...........the good days are long gone.  In my own twisted sense of understanding..it almost reminds me of the old Chicago Bears team.  Alot of people STILL watch them......but it's not the same.  That's how i feel about ND too.

Lordandmaster -> RE: Hail To The Victors! (9/1/2007 11:29:39 PM)

I'll bet anything the Bears win a championship before Notre Dame.  Hell, they might even do it this year.  Lovie Smith is a hell of a coach.  No one's bringing back George Halas and Sid Luckman, but the Bears can compete today on the highest level.

One thing I'll say about Ty: his last couple of recruiting classes were pretty weak.

happypervert -> RE: Hail To The Victors! (9/2/2007 4:49:43 AM)

At least nobody but the most delusional ND fans had high expectations for them this year -- Weis has recruited well the past two years but they're still young, their defense sucked last year and their offensive skill players all graduated. So this is clearly a rebuilding year, and the experience the players get should help them be better next year. And they're dropping Michigan from the schedule so they can get another cupcake to add a win to their record -- this is good news because it assures them a spot in a bowl game they have no business being in so they can continue their streak of bowl game losses that began after the '94 season.

But Michigan was the consensus favorite to win the Big Ten conference and they returned almost everyone from very good offense, and every year they cherry pick the best recruits from around the country. It's hard to tell if they were so arrogant they thought they could sleepwalk through this game, or if their defense is just that pathetic after graduating so many from last year's team. It's funny, though, that this was so bad that even the Ohio State fans feel sorry for them.

There were rumors Lloyd Carr would retire after this season; maybe they'll just hand him a sword and ask him to do the honorable thing by falling on it now. Sayonara!

caitlyn -> RE: Hail To The Victors! (9/2/2007 9:32:16 AM)

I tend not to blame coaches for these kinds of games. I know a lot of college athletes.

My guess is that Lloyd Carr talked all week about how good their opponent was, and how you can't take them lightly. I bet they watched film to get the players ready. I bet they talked about the goals for this year. I bet he has a curfew. I bet all the players looked him in the eye and insisted they are ready, and going to play hard to accomplish the team's goals.

And ... two hours after practice on Friday, I bet most of them were at party hard express, because the next day they were only playing Apa-Sompin' State.

PlayfulOne -> RE: Hail To The Victors! (9/2/2007 10:17:09 AM)

Michigan's defense was weak last year and doesn't look like it is going to be any better now.  I think they could easily wind up with 3 losses if the defense doesn't improve.

heh . . . yeah, and besides, they're Michigan after all, and it is impossible for them to lose at home to Apa-Sompin' State. In spite of what Carr told them, the starters knew they only needed to show up and play until sometime in the 2nd quarter, and then the back-ups would beat up on the kids who weren't even good enough to get a scholie to a school in the MAC or another 2nd rate conference. Apa State was one of just 3 wins for NC State last year, so they stood no chance against mighty Michigan.
