i'm just curious if a small crockpot could be used to melt paraffin? Those Paraffin baths are so expensive.

I've seen them used for colored paraffin when it was needed in small amounts...I imagine you have to be very mindful fo the temperature with a crockpot though. E-bay sometimes has very cheap new paraffin baths. Hope you find what you're looking for. [;)]

Crockpots are awesome for wax play. The general mixture I use is two large "religious" wax candles and two blocks of paraffin melted together.

If you are dealing with paraffin then you are a real wax lover. I have found that very very few can take paraffin. Most take a combination of different types of wax which decreases the amount of heat to the skin. But if you crave the heat of paraffin then a crockpot is an ideal method to hold an nice quantity of wax. Just go easy on the amounts applied.

Did anyone else get the image of a miniature church filled with candles for the congregation? I think I better go to bed. [&:]

The temperature range on most crock pots varies greatly and some can cause some very serious burns. Paraffin baths are a much safer alternative and they generally cost much LESS than a crock pot. I paid less than 10 dollars for mine from a large drug store chain. I would be extremely cautious with the use of a crock pot and would want to have a thermometer handy to check the temperature of the wax.

For the religious candles I stick them on the stove in a pot of boiling water. Melts it quicker.

I also use the crock pot for the paraffin wax... I love it...

Does anyone have any wax play pictures?

Selene

I agree with Mistress Selene. I and my friends always use the religious candle in a water bath to melt them. Also, we use paraffin as a base before we use all those beautiful colors of wax poured all over..I have seen the small crock pots used but personally, I prefer the other..
