i am going to a Gay Pride Festival at the end of this month and Master has told me that i will be wearing my training collar. i am nervous because i dont know what to say to our friends that ask "why am i wearing a collar?" And i know i will be asked because its not very discreet. Its a red spiked dog collar. LOL! Do i just say i like collars? LOL!!

Anyone else ever been in this situation and had a good answer?

You're wearing a collar to a gay pride festival and you're worried what people will think??????

EmeraldSlave2 -> RE: Wearing training collar in public (7/12/2005 10:53:20 AM)

Public Display

Am I supposed to wear it all the time?

Have you ever been to a gay pride festival? Have you seen what some wear? Your collar won't be of much importance to anyone but you and your Master. If your friends are that interested in it, I suggest telling them the truth. If you're open enough to attend a gay pride festival, why not that you're into bdsm? People worry too much about what others think. Just remember, it's not their life, it's yours!

I wear my collar, which is a dog choker chain, everywhere I go. If asked, I tell them its a special gift from a special person. But I don't worry what people will think, its your lifestyle, so be proud.[:D]

Hello There,
I am under a collar that's not like the gothic kid style chokers I wear 24/7 too. Only My Master can take it off or put it on. The first week I wore it my 17yr old son piped up with "That's a sex collar isn't it mom?" I told him the truth, no it's not a sex collar, it's a collar I wear to show My Master( I used his first name) is with me always, much like a wedding ring. He actually was relieved it wasn't specifically tied to sex. He does know I'm into BDSM now as he's noticed my reading materials changed.
If you're in the closet or ashamed about being kinky, tell them you're following the gothic fashion trend. My advice to you though is to be proud to wear your Master's collar and let people know it means He's with you in spirit always, and that the two of you belong together.
Sincerely,
sub suzanne

Heh. My collar is a dog choke chain with a prominant lock.

I get asked all the time "Do you hjave the keys" or "who has the keys?"

I just say "My boyfriend has them on his keychain so we don't lose them."

True, and inoffensive.

Also, though, I often wear a dog collar simply 'cause I like te look. LOTS of people wear them just to be pretty :) Anyway, smiling and nodding does wonders.

Ever been to a gay bar? Never seen anyone wearing a collar?
Aside from a gay pride festival. I'm sure if you don't have a collar on you
will be the outcast. With the collar you will just fit in.

Aside from that if you don't have your collar yet, what will it be?
I don't have a collar with my current dom yet, I don't feel we have reached
the stage in our relationship that I can accept it. Knowing it will never come
off of me again.

However, with my first dom I had a string of pearls. Never came off of my neck.
Nobody ever asked a question.

With the current it will be a gold chain with a cross on it. I've been asked to choose
what I want, that is what I want.

Collars don't have to be gaudy.

Something subtle like a regular necklace would work on any subbie if I collar her. Worn in the vanilla world or bdsm, she would know what it truly means.

Note: I currently have no sub, I am just saying my perferance..

You do not have a thing to worry about... gay pride is one place you will not have an issue with your collar. My girl & her friend ran sound for Pride here in our town. Just for fun & grins I bought her a rainbow one (& a rainbow leash) to wear in the sound booth & parade.

Rainbows wear everywhere & there were a lot of Leather Pride items worn as well as sold. Have Fun & HAPPY PRIDE!!

Yes i have been to gay pride before. Wearing it at pride is not the problem. i could care less what others think. The friends that i have are not into this lifestyle. One of them thought a flogger was something a toilet did..LMFAO! these are gay people, they just dont know much about this lifestyle. i just know they will ask why i'm wearing a collar. i could just come out and say (pointing next to me) this is my Master. They already know her though and i can already see the confused looks on their faces..LOL!!

Not all gay people know what this lifestyle is about. And if i do come out and tell them, then i will be parkin it for a while because they will have a million questions.

Just wear a television antenna on your head and I guarantee no one will be asking about that collar.

Hmm our family didn't have cable until I graduated high school as a gift for getting a scholarship.

Of course, after that I only saw them when I got beaten with them (nasty suckers).

I don't think you have much to worry about. Right before last Halloween, I made a decision to come out as a furry, and started wearing a LARGE (better than two inches wide) collar all the time. The only time I don't wear it is at work.

Once I started making restraints and my own toys back in January, I made another collar for myself with a locking buckle. I've had about 6 people in the vanilla world (and I live in an old-folks town) ask me about it, and a couple of them were teasing me about m'lady having to lock her "dawg" (that's what they said) away to keep him out of trouble. Most of the others just read the tag and go on.

I'm actually flattered when someone asks about my collar. I voulentarily put it on, but I've given myself to her so many times it may as well be permanent. I find the inquiry about it more polite than stares.

I had a simmilar fear when I first put it on, but an entire weekend passed with about 800 Witches and pagans in Collumbus OH at a major hotel, and no one, from the staff, to the guests to the people in the airport to the clerks in the convienience store, said anything to me. I was kinda at a loss.

Just wear it. Act as though it's a necklace. Be proud of it, don't try to hide it. You only get ridicule when you are ashamed or have something to hide. Wear it openly and proudly, and I'll be willing to bet that NO ONE even mentions it.

Well when I went back to my old Community College recently I noticed so many dog collars on people I thought I was the unusual one. I think the Goth culture changed all that.

i had no clue how popular collars were as jewelry until i went to the mall yesterday (not much of a jewelry woman). So i'm browsing in a teeny bopper store and there were all these spiked collar chokers. i was like, wtf! for kids? i guess you're right poesraven8 about the goth culture changing this.

The collar being such a popular fashion accessory hasn't made it very easy for the folks that recognize this as a symbol of the wearer being 'owned'. Too often newbie-types will wear them to fetish parties thinking they are merely signifying they are submissive. Those of us that view it as the wearer being a collared (owned) submissive will pass by them & not strike up convo in most cases.

I have had this happen on more than one occasion at events & then find out at a later date they were not actually collared.
