I have a condition called Spina Bifida and it turns out that people with this condition also have a severe allergy to latex. (A fetishist with a latex allergy! lol.) Can anyone suggest protective gloves that are not made of this god-awful stuff (I.M.H.O). Cos I want to play without snuffing it,or at least being seriously ill. Might be quite a downer for all concerned. Im in the U.K btw. HalloweenWhite.[X(]

Here in the US, you can get non-latex gloves at any drugstore - they are right next to the latex ones, so make sure you grab the right box. Ask for help if you can't find them. The ones that we have are vinyl, I believe, and I know they make neoprene and a few other materials that I'm not allergic to (my allergy probably isn't as severe as yours, but it still blows). They are more expensive than latex, and you have to be careful - I have run into a few brands at work that tear more easily than the latex ... can't remember which one was the worst though, sorry.

Thank you for your help. You have the same allergy ?. To be honest, I have not had any real life experience yet-access problems and all sorts of other stuff. I just posted this question as I will ( I hope) need to know sooner or later so it was an attempt to pre-empt any risk cos it bothers Me a bit lol. I shall now go hunting to see what I can find . i am also allergic to latex gloves. used to wear for work and hands broke out so bad i need medicine. did not know was the gloves at first. if the pharmacey is out can try a store that sells products for the disablied, older, sick people. off the top of my head cant think of what the store is called. if dont know yourself you can get back to me and i will look it up in the phone book. try medical supplies.

Vinyl is your best bet due to lower cost. Nitril gloves are available but they tend to be thicker and harder to get on.. usually they are considered a surgeons glove. Neoprene would be so hot you would be ripping them off in no time. Any medical supply store should be able to get either kind for you. As an aside note, please be sure to get an ANA-kit or something similar in case something you are playing with does have some latex in it. Allergies become more severe the more frequently you are exposed to the allergen.

Vinyl would be your best bet only if price was your sole concern. Nitrile gloves are available in the same range of thickness as vinyl, offer more puncture resistance, more tactile feedback and once you know your size they are no more difficult than vinyl to put on. Plus, you can get them in purple [:)] ~stef

Heh... the things I miss when I'm out of town... I'm allergic to latex too. And when I told my doctor what I was up to, she handed me a box of vinyl gloves, free! So you can always try that route :)
