"Todd McFarlane, the guy who brought you Spawn and a lot of the action figures sold in Hot-Topic, is taking Hollywood back to Oz. Variety says the WB has bought up a McFarlane movie idea which is being called “a revisionist take” on the classic L. Frank Baum authored “Wizard of Oz” series of books.

Because it’s McFarlane and he knows no other way, his version of Oz is likely to be a dark, edgy, PG-13 take on Dorothy’s yellow-bricked adventures. Apparently he even did a toy line that turned Dorothy into some sort of big-bosomed S&M freak (see the pic to your right) and transformed Toto into a snarling warthog. That’s right, a warthog. "

Damn! i want to be Dorothy! That outfit is so much better than that blue plaid mess Mom made me wear for Halloween when i was 9. Makes me wonder what McFarlane would do with Shirley Temple in The Good Ship Lollipop?

Heh, i've had one of the Dorothy toys up on a shelf by my computer for a couple years now, along with a winged woman in ballet boots that i can't remember the name of that was by the same company... Where were these toys when i was a kid??

WB doesn't strike me as especially edgy, tho, so i'm not really getting my hopes up for the flick.

Heh!  Ya, I guess the difference is that they're releasing it in the 12" format this time.  I ordered the one w/ the skirt, but the one w/o a skirt is also available thru spawn.com after it comes out.  Is there any real difference, since the skirt is removable?

I'm not sure what they are doing with the story, but at least the doll is very cute, although the munchkins are quite demented. I'm waiting to see what they do with the Wicked Witch of the West

I love Todd McFarlane and his Spawn.  I think his toys are great, I love the darkness and depth of his visions.

I hate the OZ stories but I think in Todd's hands the Wizard of OZ would be wonderful. 

Kinda like American McGee's Alice kinda feel is what I'd hope for, only done darker still.

Like others, I got the smaller version when it came out a couple of years ago. Aside from just how cool the design is, (it looks absolutely stunning on the bookshelf) I absolutely adored the copy that came with the figurine. It tell the story of young Dorathy going on a class trip, being exposed to BDSM by seeing a leathershop in the big city, and having a sexual epiphany. She leaves home, and immediately dives into the sexual underground.... God, it was better written in three paragraphs than 80% of Penthouse Variations has been in three years!

The movie will probably be interesting visually, but I'm sure it will be crucified by the critics.

Whoa.  I NEED to make a doll like that!
I would love to see Oz take a darker turn.  I am fairly certain the lollipops were coated with LSD.  I never saw anything evil about the so called wicked witch, other than she wanted her families property back (the ruby slippers). 
Sadly they will probably make the witch Dorothy's captor.  But if i wrote it, I would have her tortured by The Wizard until she became a willing pawn in the plot to seize power.

Hmmmmm fascinating. But yes I think the ruby slippers are the only thing missing. I'm sure in their original incarnation they'd clash with that outfit but I'm equally sure that he could cook up something appropriate.

Those ballerina type shoes are also popular and look excruciating. Whatever it is I think keeping the ruby in the ruby slippers is vital.

These guys would definitely cook up something great.

I have the Oz set of action figures you mention.  Very cool stuff.  I love the Dorothy one most of course due to her being in bondage.  :)
