I suppose you don't recall the part about why Germany was split in two. This wasn't a fear of what 'could' happen, it's a fear of what had already happened. I don't blame China, or the former USSR for what they did. They acted in their own interests, as nations. The contention here, is that the interests of those nations do not include personal liberty, free speech, or social mobility; things that you regularly rail about our government not giving us. Stephan, Arguing out of both sides of your mouth is better when you do it to people who don't see both your posts. As for Thompson, we don't always see eye to eye but your knowledge of history probably isn't as good as the bimbos he dates.

It's a rival nation. It does things that I strongly disagree with. Yet it doesn't wish for our destruction; otherwise they wouldn't have that huge trading partner to buy their pink flamingos and knock off clothing. My issue isn't that we should 'Teach China a Lesson.' My issue is that the West would be foolish to ignore the influences that rival nations will exert, if we simply 'ignore' them. Yet we seem determined to do both. Barring that, if you disagree with my opinions on the historical context, saying "nuh-uh" doesn't do much for conversation. Stephan

He's obviously a dictator. However, compared to other countries and other leaders, he should be among the last on the list of people to worry about.
