bandit25 -> What do you hope to gain? (9/3/2007 7:20:39 AM)

In either their profiles or their journals, many doms comment on all the fakes or wanna be subs/slaves, in what sounds like a (somewhat) whiney or, at the very least, a negative manner.  I'm not quite sure what the point to that is.  We all know that there are players on every site so to make that observation seems, well, somewhat pointless to me.  Anyway, what do you hope to gain?  Do you think that some sub/slave is going to see it and think "Aha, I'll show him what a 'real' sub is like" and contact you?  Or is is just one of those...I HAD it with all the fakes days?  I'm truly curious.

KatyLied -> RE: What do you hope to gain? (9/3/2007 7:40:39 AM)

I think it's funny.  And on a somewhat sadder note, I find that those who proclaim the loudest about those things maybe have some self-loathing going on.  Perhaps they fear that they are a fake, not real, player, etc.  It gives me cause when I come across those sort of profiles that make statements such as "I'm real, you be real too" "only contact me if you are for real", etc  It's sort of goofy.

I think it's a "I've had it days".  And in some other ways it's a warning to others perhaps.

I think I have 2 such posts in my journal, but I don't believe either to be whiney or negative.   One states something what I seek and look for, and what I do not desire.  And the other was a frustration day, where I was thinking that there was hope, and maybe a chance for something to happen, and the rug just got yanked from under me.  But that, if I remember correctly was a "aww crap, I got lied to, it sucks, oh well pick myself up and back to square one" tone.

I guess the further contex of the message and question is...  what does their profile say?  What is it's tone? And how does he use his journal?

If he's all ranting, negative, and only complains?  Yes it would be a waste with no point other than to push everyone away.

If it's one or two comments, one or two posts intermixed within many others?  Then I would see it as a form of honesty, update to their life, frustration, or other sort of post that just helps to define the type of person that he is.

At least that is how I see it when I view submissive profiles.  I frown at ones that rant at all the fakes and HNG's and liers and whatever there are and how they can't find anyone.  I take it as I see it, as a grain of salt, should the journal have one or two like that intermixed with comments of her life and ponderings and other such thoughts that are part of journal enteries.

All in all.  I think many of the posts are frustration.  And people use the journal as an outlet of sorts, instead of an outlet for everything, just an outlet for their frustration.

Just my meandering thoughts and opinions anyways.  :)

With all due respect of course, once again, I am going to state that some do not like to use their journal here for the whole entire CM to read.  I personally keep my own hand written one, this is my option, my choice.  I add very few entries, but never anything that I do not wish to share with those I do not know.  A journal to me is a private, personal thing and for those who do use them here, I usually enjoy reading them, but once again, that is their option.

RRafe -> RE: What do you hope to gain? (9/3/2007 8:31:10 AM)

It's called using a filter. The specific intent is to keep the sorts that have annoyed them in the past from pestering them. Lots of people who post personals everywhere do it.

Get played games with enough-and it happens.

I was waiting for this.  How is saying "fakes need not bother contacting me" going to stop a fake from contacting someone?

I understand that's the intent...does anyone really think it's going to work?

TheIronHorse -> RE: What do you hope to gain? (9/3/2007 8:38:42 AM)

That only attracts more flakes and losers......LOL

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking...LOL!  Course, now I suppose every flake and loser on this site will contact me!!!!!!!!!!!!

TheIronHorse -> RE: What do you hope to gain? (9/3/2007 8:44:31 AM)

It's a freakin' challenge to them.....LOL.  Why in the world do you want to taunt some nutjob by inferring s/he is one?

I totally agree with you, it is totally goofy and annoying. What does that even mean, be real? The only excuse I can think of is that some profiles are redirecting to pay sites, so many become suspicious of profiles. They also speak of "be real" because of frustration in trying to meet someone.

havingfaith -> RE: What do you hope to gain? (9/3/2007 8:46:20 AM)

i had just had a similar conversation with my Dom about this topic. We both agreed that putting down others or whining about things is a definate turn off for Us. It's not to say that someone had a bad day and needed to get something off their chest, but why put it in a profile trying to attract someone. IMO i definately would not look twice at a whiny Dom.

Oh, such is your choice, and there is nothing wrong with it.   I'm just saying, that if you post a journal here, be it short and not often, or long, detailed and often, it will be showing others something about who you are.
If your journal is all negative it can be seen as a bad thing.
It's not bad if you don't post a journal.  But if you post understand what you post is in a way a reflection of who you are, and if you post all negative it'll make you look negative.

Then again.  If you don't seek anything and don't care about what others think I guess what you post really doesn't matter would it?  lol

:)

TheIronHorse -> RE: What do you hope to gain? (9/3/2007 8:50:49 AM)

I will post some of my negative experiences in my journal, but not on my profile.
I often go back and delete old journal postings when I am over that particular issue.

But see...that's good because it keeps the flakes and unreal people together.  They think they are real, pretend through their protestations, we know what they really are, and they'll leave us alone because they are too busy convincing each other of how *real* they are.  win-win

feastie -> RE: What do you hope to gain? (9/3/2007 8:52:32 AM)

One person's fake is another person's real deal.  I personally don't see how this filters anything.

Babybass -> RE: What do you hope to gain? (9/3/2007 8:53:26 AM)

I don't really know what they hope to gain - but sometimes it probably is from genuine people trying to meet someone special and they are just very frustrated that they cannot and have to listen to people they think are 'not real'!!

TheIronHorse -> RE: What do you hope to gain? (9/3/2007 8:54:32 AM)

TheIronHorse -> RE: What do you hope to gain? (9/3/2007 8:56:19 AM)

Somewhere in another thread, this point was made.  I have been called a fake by one I didnt connect with.  It's an easy label to slap on someone you dont click with.

But as katylied pointed out,  we can hope that those people gravitate into their own orbit and leave the rest of us alone.
