Where do you get your candles for wax play?  Do you go to the store to get them?  Do you order specific candles?

earthycouple -> RE: candle play questions (9/3/2007 9:19:16 AM)

if you buy them at any "typical" store...get the basic emergency candles.  They burn at a lower temp than scented, colored candles and are less dangerous overall.

Otherwise.....google wax play candles or some such thing.  There are companies that make colorful candles with low melting points for wax play.

RRafe -> RE: candle play questions (9/3/2007 9:23:35 AM)

Aviod beeswax-they will cause severe burns. I jusr used to use the ones for power outages that they sell. The top should try it on thier own arm first-on the inside part. That way, they can check and see what height to drip the wax from-and not do permanent injury.

chellekitty -> RE: candle play questions (9/3/2007 9:30:11 AM)

dollar store...the pretty ones...hehe...usually the prayer ones work pretty well...different colors for designs...do a search for "wax"  up in the upper right hand corner of the page, to find different techniques...

edited to add...just had an idea...does anyone remember those things that they used to have where you would spin the paper really fast and drop the paint on it and it would create a circular splatter....could you do that witha really large lazy susan type thing a sub and some fully melted prayer candles?

LATEXBABY64 -> RE: candle play questions (9/3/2007 9:42:16 AM)

also remeber the distance you hold it away from a persons skin i use to let it hit my arm before it let it hit someone else kinda of symbolic of sharing a subs pain and pleasure thingy but that is just me

asked and answered unless you have more questions about wax and candle play.....

white unscented parafin is your friend if you are purchasing from a general retail or a dollar store

otherwise bdsm websites and kink stores sell those made in pretty colors specifically for wax play.

I've heard good things about kosher candles. I think you can get those in just about any grocery store. We use some I bought at an adult store and while I'm not very happy with them, they are huge and we haven't used them up yet.

Celeste43 -> RE: candle play questions (9/3/2007 10:10:49 AM)

The hotter they burn, the faster they burn. That's why emergency candles designed to burn 8 hours burn at low temps. And the religious ones are also designed to burn for a long period of time.

Alternately get a paraffin bath and blocks of paraffin. Takes a while to melt but then you could ladle it on as well as just drop it.

earthycouple -> RE: candle play questions (9/3/2007 10:30:13 AM)

I presume religious candles are made essentially the same way as emergency candles then....(not religious so I really am clueless) I also presume they are white only?

I LOVE my parafin bath for so many fun things!

I think some of them are red but I'm not sure. Of course, when I think of religious candles I think of the candles in the glass towers with pictures of Mary and Jesus on them. I think that would kinda weird me out to see during a scene. [:D]

earthycouple -> RE: candle play questions (9/3/2007 10:58:08 AM)

lol.  Aquatic...I forgot about those....you find them in the ethnic foods sections at grocery stores...it would freak me out too.

I just did the shopping for dinner and came across the candles. *grins* Now the two are forever linked in my head... Jesus candles and sex.

earthycouple -> RE: candle play questions (9/3/2007 2:26:07 PM)

"Jesus candles and sex"

That is hilarious.  I too, am forever cursed now, thanks Aquatic.

Jesus candles and sex.

that statement will be stuck in my head for quite some time, I am going to hell...

MadRabbit -> RE: candle play questions (9/3/2007 2:29:53 PM)

You can go to Walmart and get a  big bag of non scented, non dyed parafin tealights for a few bucks. They burn really low and its easier to control the wax because its a little cup. I can put these things an inch from my skin, drop the wax, and only suffer a little reddening. Short of dropping the wax in an eye, I cant imagine how anyone could possible cause something that could be seriously classified as "injury" with these.
