Its all fine if you like a little drama with your kink. Check that, A LOT of drama!!

MizzElle -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 8:55:06 AM)

I used to use it, but got pissed off when they deleted me after someone accused me of something (which I didn't do, I'm smart enough to get around any rules). Anyway, some months later I opened another account, but as a standard member things had changed and I felt like I wasn't getting enough out of it, actually in one group, someone mentioned this site and that's how I found CM. I am so happy I did, it may be a smaller community, but I like the set up here better.
I used to use another website before my break, but I can't remember it now...if I remember I'll add it.

Cuckme4Life -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 8:55:08 AM)

Alt would be a better site if it was not a pay site. That sounds a bit ridiculous to some people and I can understand. But why fool with Alt when CMe has no charges and you can comment and email others to your hearts content??

ObedientYYC -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 9:00:16 AM)

The only thing free about alt for most people, is that its free to create content to benefit the alt site.   Overall alt is pretty hostile towards their users, even their paying users.   The mail filter is a bitch.. Your email might never get delivered and you have no idea why the person hasn't responded to you.   I figure if I paid for a membership they shouldn't be randomly censoring my messages.

chathamvahere -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 9:13:53 AM)

Alt.com for us was overall a bad experiece, we hated the paid part, it just makes you angry, the bad thing is trying to communicate with other people with the spam filter and constant monitoring CM is much better period.

I thought bcom was part of Alt?

Bondage.com was bought out by the company that also owns Alt.com

There was some concern that Alt would also attempt to buy Collarme.com, but it seems that was just rumor.

There will always be a niche for the paid matchmaker services, and the free matchmaker services.  There are pitfalls and boons on both sides; paid servers tend to have many more men than women (since men are more likely to pay for sex related services.)  Yet, those who -have- paid for a matchmaker service, are more likely to be who they say they are; after all, who wants to shell out thirty bucks just to play pretend?

My experiences with this site, have been largely good.  I think the message boards on CM are the most effective way to get to know people; I recently met someone at a play party who recognized me from my posts.  Having that common base to draw on helped.  Obviously, your milage will vary.

lilgurrl -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 10:24:39 AM)

I had a subcription to alt, a free one.  I never invest money unless its r/t kink. Being a sub female, I think it was generally easier in that I had a ton of Doms email me without me really having to do much.  I did meet my Dom in a chat room there where he is still a paying member.  I would suggest, respectfully, to try as what they call a "Standard" member - thats the one thats free.  Some paying members actually pay a little extra so that "Standard" members can contact them.  So, its all in what you get out of it.  It is a very dark-feeling site, tho...just look at the screen backgrounds--all black.  I prefer the more welcoming, community feel of CM.[:)]

Peace to all.

LadyPact -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 10:27:28 AM)

Yes, I forgot to mention that.  My current submissive I met through alt.  One prior as well.  Also, many of the bottoms that I play with.

MiladyElaine -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 10:45:24 AM)

Alt won't even let you send a kiss or add them to your friends list unless you're a member!  The only thing you can do to let them know you're interested is look at their profile.
Mydungeonspace seems to have a lot of members over there but they must all be in the chat room which I don't care for.
Cageme is free but not too much going on.
submissivematch is only $10 month and doesn't have recurring billing.
None of these sites have the "energy" that Collarme does.

LadyPact -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 10:52:26 AM)

Actually, the way to get around that is to send invites through emails.  As I said earlier, standard members with enough profile views to earn certain priviledges (viewing unlimited profiles, sending mail, etc.) are able to invite friends to the network anyway.  The person on the other end doesn't need the priviledges to accept the network invite.

One thing about alt, you have to know how to work the system.  The only thing I can't do there that paying members can do is send 11 emails, rather than 10, in a 24 hour period.

twistedkytten -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 11:33:21 AM)

Many years ago I tried alt... didn't entertain me well enough... I didnt pay for it either.

breatheasone -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 11:35:57 AM)

I didnt care for the site...

Yeah you can recieve emails from anyone who pays, but you can't send emails to anyone unless they've contacted you first, you can only send replies...and you can't even view the profiles of those who email you, unless they've attached a copy of their profile to the email they sent you...though, maybe that's all changed since I've stopped going there

Nope, it hasn't changed.  My husband and I have one paid membership as a couple simply because he likes to browse the pictures and profiles.  I have a profile myself that's standard and it's gotten to the point where it's totally useless.  I was kicked off myself (supposedly because someone complained) and had to create a new profile.  Now I cannot view other profiles, send messages, or receive messages.  All I can do is see who's viewed me.  We have yet to meet anyone through our paid profile worthwhile.  Collarme is by far (in my opinion) the best deal out there.  I've met LOTS of people and it's extremely user friendly, not to mention the fact that it's free!

alt.com sucks

LadySeraphina -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 12:03:44 PM)

I like it for one reason only: our local chat room, the Alberta Room, is always filled with locals. Yes, it's also full of drama, but I don't participate in it, so the chat room is a good way for me to keep in touch.

(For the record, I can't use the chat rooms here because they don't seem to work for me. It's either my Mac or Firefox, I'm guessing. I do love the forums here, though.)

Edited to add:
I was just reading upward, and I've had my paid profile removed there as well. It seems that someone complained I was soliciting business. For the record, I never solicit, simply reply with information when it is requested. Even then I reject half the potential clients. *wankers*

After the paid profile was removed, I did create a new standard one, and decided I would never again give them money. If their chat room wasn't handy, I'd likely never log in there.

I've also recently found a message from a boy I know in my bulk messages folder, which means I can't read the message. He's someone I know, and they won't even let me see what he had to say. Bah.

MsLilac -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 12:52:24 PM)

I didn’t really care much for Alt.com either in my brief time over there many moons ago. I personally found it to be more common than ‘normal’ with ‘married and cheating’ types looking for hook ups, as opposed to BDSM/Ds/Ms related.

I had a standard membership there but this was a while ago, so it may have had more privileges then. I came across a few men who had a sense of entitlement because they paid for membership, either that, or they were just too damn full of themselves. I’ve also heard some rumours that there are dummy profiles, which probably didn’t help with their expectations. I much prefer Collarme, as someone mentioned, it has an energy about it, it feels more people-led, as opposed to the heavy-handed tactics of Alt.

For myself, I really didn’t like the whole feel of Alt, it was just sleazy - a never ending line of horny men looking for hook ups and to get off. I know that happens with most personal sites, but to me, it just seemed more apparent and numerous there.

And don’t get me started on the horizon-less sea of cock shots! Lol. Not something I would pay a membership fee for.

arayofsunshine55 -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 7:10:51 PM)

Everything has it's upsides and downsides. I met Daddy on alt 3 years ago so I'm certainly not going to poo poo it.   Haven't got much more that that but he's such a big upside what can I say?  for me it only takes one.  Well as I am looking for a switch, bottom, sub maybe it only takes two. [;)]

I am most active on bondage.  If you don't go through alt you can view profiles.  And if you email from an external address you can email most.  I've made lots of acquaintances there, and we've found women who have enjoyed playing with us as a couple.

well, it would be a great place, if one were able to reply to emails received, free of charge. unfortunately. one must pay to respond.

You can reply to emails received for free... you can't look at the person's profile, but you can reply to messages.  Just good luck being a male and getting any messages...  Also if you get enough profile views you can view/message a certain number of people...  Once again good luck as a male...  Well, I did make a rediculus profile there with the sole purpose of getting a lot of views.  I even used my real photo, which was probably a bad idea considering the profile... then I was able to look at profiles and realized I'd rather use collarme anyway : ).

The one thing I think alt has over collarme is the ability to search by distance (really handy when you're an hours drive away from 4 states).

Prinsexx -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 9:37:39 PM)

About Alt
I've been off and on Alt for 6 years
and introduced many of my vanilla friends and clients to it as a stepping stone into the bdsm scene.
It IS possible to be a completely free member and to respond and email others, send them a wink AND hotlist them.
Alt accept to most outrageous pics (unlike here???) AND I have some very long lasting and very sincere friends...one whom I have never met who lives in Europe but remains one of my dearest friends of four years and always will. It was hm that told me about Collarme which I have recently only just joined.
Each site has adifferent dynamic.
This site is great for 'meeting' or rather, experiencing the difficulties of meeting Canadians, whom for me are the most fascinating culturally at the moment on the world wide bdsm scene.

sexyred1 -> RE: Anyone know about alt.com? (9/4/2007 9:44:08 PM)

Alt is horrible. Collarme is the best one around. There is something unwelcoming about alt.com and I have spoken to and met much better quality people here.
