Does dance play a role in your life? In your memories? i have such wonderful memories of dancing ever since my days as a tweenie watching "Soul Train" and "American Bandstand". Right on through college and then the Power of Disco; oooooooo, wrap dresses, o la la, laughs. And then in school again in the 80's, dancing on riverboat barges in Cincinnati...and laughing ...men would not believe my girlfriends and i were law students so we'd make up occupations. Nurse was the hottest by far, incidentially, laughs.

Now i want to dance again. i had a line on a pole dancer through a stripper who used the same stylist as i, but that sort of drifted away. And maybe i no longer have the strength in my legs; i'm not sure. But i do want to learn to belly dance.

Dancing on a crowded dance floor, and then actually "doing it", is a favorite fantasy of mine, LOL.

i think dance is a very erotic thing. It has a power that has been recognized for time immemorial.

Psa 87:7 All who sing or dance will say, "I too am from Zion."

Jer 31:4 You are precious to me, and so I will rebuild your nation. Once again you will dance for joy.

Jer 31:13 Young women and young men, together with the elderly, will celebrate and dance, because I will comfort them and turn their sorrow into happiness.

2Sa 6:14 He was dancing for the LORD with all his might, but he wore only a linen cloth.

Psa 30:11 You have turned my sorrow into joyful dancing. No longer am I sad and wearing sackcloth.

Psa 149:3 Praise his name by dancing and playing music on harps and tambourines.

Psa 150:4 Praise him with tambourines and dancing, with stringed instruments and woodwinds.

Luk 15:25 The older son had been out in the field. But when he came near the house, he heard the music and dancing.

"For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance" (Ecclesiastes 3:1-4 RSV)

In several areas of Western culture, the Dance of the Seven Veils by Salomé is one of the elaborations on the historical and biblical tale of the execution of John the Baptist.

According to ten verses of Matthew 14, John was imprisoned for criticizing the marriage between King Herod Antipas and his "brother's" ex-wife Herodias. Herod offered her (unnamed) daughter a reward of her choice for performing an (unnamed) dance on his birthday, and Herodias got her to ask for John the Baptist's head on a platter, which was granted.

(The phrases "bring [someone someone else's] head on a platter" or "have [someone's] head on a platter" remain popular metaphors in Western culture for anger and/or retribution.)

Historically, that Herod and Herodias's ex-husband are specifically known to have been half-brothers, and the execution is adequately explained by John's criticism and other political needs Herod plausibly perceived.

The details enriching the story in later Christian mythology include giving the name Salomé to Herod's previously unnamed nubile stepdaughter, providing a name for the dance, and the purpose of the dance being to inflame Herod with incestuous desire so that he would grant her anything she asked.

None of the biblical references or of my own memories, fantasises or desires will really completely explain why i dance; or what it means to me. i wondered what it might mean to others in the lifestyle?

I like to dance with friends and will dance by myself often. In fact I danced at work today. Master does not ask for nor require dance as part of His service and in nearly three years I have not seen Him dance nor have I danced for Him.

Perhaps that is a bit sad for both of us.

Dance is one of the ways i express joy and thanks to my deities. It's something i do with great enthusiasm and abandonment, which has already made me a real danger to the other dancers. [:D]

I love to dance. One of the best times was dancing at a club with the Owner and he put his arm around my throat and his forearm pushed against my neck...I couldn't breath...but he kept spinning me, dancing, no one else could tell anything was amiss...but I was struggling, losing air, lost in the lights.

Fabulous. I love to dance.
