unladen weight of truck, help

Status: offline 		ok- the state kicked back my title effort on the 1991 s-10 pick up truck i bought. they insist to know the "unladen weight" in order to process the title. The one number I have is 4200 lbs. Which my brother says is not the weight they want. it is not printed on the door, and I phoned the local Chevy dealer for advise for which the dude was dumbfounded over my question.

I need to do something with the paperwork- the motor is a 4.3 which is simmilliar to a celebrity.
it has extended bed- i doubt it is FWD. it has no options on it.

I think the cost of a license plate hinges on this weight.

any advice?

No one seems to know anything so far...

Status: offline 		go to a scrap iron yard, and have it weighed. They want to know the weight of the vehicle (minus your fat ass and anything else) 4200# sounds about right.
There should be a sticker in the drivers door saying GVW:  4200 # and that is what they want.

Status: offline 		Curb weight is 2763 lbs. At least if its a long bed. That's the one I picked to see if the information was provided.

Kelly Blue Book is a good source of car info. I use it all the time to check on values and whenever I'm in the market personally. That's the specs page for the long bed with an automatic transmission. You'll have to change the parameters if you want the weight with a manual transmission, but the site is easy to use.

Status: offline 		Uhhhhhhhhhhhh----------yeah, Merc saves the day, the gross vehicle weight (GVW) would be what it is fully loaded with cargo.  I have got to quit working and answering posts at the same time.....too confusing.

I will quit working, and answer the posts then.

Status: offline 		This site lists the weight at 3,024 lbs for an extended cab. You want the curb weight, not the gross vehicle weight. The GVW is used for towing and is the maximum allowable weight including the weight of the vehicle.

Status: offline 		That seems way too light to me, be careful you are not looking at a payload or max tow weight.

      That sounds like payload.  Drive out to a truckstop and get the certified weight slip from the private scale.  DMV likes those.
