Welcome to the forum. I think you will find some really good advice on this forum and to be honest - alot more than learning via an online relationship. You might find some people a little 'anti online' and most are viewed as 'players'(unfortuantely) What I will say is that , from a personal point of view , if you are interested in online only then go for it. But if it's wanting to learn and experience BDSM or Ds or whatever section your into, then online isn't a good way because it is completely different and also you cannot get 'on hand/first hand' experience and sensation. I am not trying to be negative - if onlines your thing, go for it - but if you really wnat to progress into r/t - you will find that anything you learn online will be different to realtime. Have You considered going to a munch or local group? Or trying to find a mentor?
