Okay I searched but only got responses about the symbols under your name which I'm NOT concerned about. I was wondering what the general public meaning of these among fellow bdsm'rs. The reason I ask is I'm relatively new to this stuff in classification but have always been a dominate male (just never actively accepted it) and I have a 6" 4 color triskelion tat'd on my left shoulder. I originally got it because I'm part Irish and it is a symbol of celtic heritage, but now I'm half scared that it means I'm "submissive" and I don't want to give off that vibe at ALL.

No triskellion does not equal submissive. I actually dislike how its used in the scene because I DO have attachment to it as the older celtic symbol.

For most people it just means "hey, that's likely someone into the scene"

Some people like to say the three parts mean "SSC" or some other 3 pieced acronym you can come up with.

It's pretty, it's not commonly used in society and it's a strong powerful symbol.

Ah, good, didn't want to give off any mixed signals LOL

Here's a picture in case anyone gives a crap. It's a bad picture with a crappy camera taken in a mirror so it looks like it's on my right arm but it's actually the left side.

Here is the scoop from the person who created the BDSM triskele. He also owns the copyright and so, if you're going to use it, especially if you're using it on something you sell or you're altering it in any way, you should check with him. The symbol was created to represent a community, not a role.

If you log into the website that MistressFire gave, your tattoo isn't even the BDSM triskele. It does look nice though. I plan on getting one in the near future.

Okay I get it now, it's a particularly designed triskelion and not a general meaning held for the entire genre of artwork.

Cool

*nod* My tattoo is based on a triskele as well (the very center is designed to be reminiscent of the bdsm-emblem). I don't think yours is similar enough to set off the "oo, look, a fellow kinky person" I know mine isn't :)

Pretty, pretty, pretty though.

You learn something new everyday, LOL, I did not even know what a triskelion was. So this is a symbol of celtic origin, right? I am into celtic to some degree, don't know why other than possible scotch/irish heritage, but love to listen to celtic music, just something so invigorating but yet restful about it. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Yup, it's -actually- of celtic origin, too, not the fairly modern irish we are generally referencing when we say "celtic." I know of triskele designs found at La Tene, but I can't remember the exact times for that. Ah well, before about 850AD my Irish history is sketchy.

Hey - I live in the land of the celts!
Well, one section if them anyways...

'Triskels', like yours(which is very good btw) are symbols of continuing life and spiritual growth. Triskel stems from 'TRI-SCEAL or - 'three stories' = nature, human and the divine.
In neolithic it is said to represent pregnancy.

A 'triskele' is the sign of the Isle of Man - and literly means 'three legged' from the greek.

Quargmyr uses the definition of Triskele to call that which was copyrighted, but it technically isn't a true triskele. However the quarmyr triskele is a three sectioned ying/yang symbol with complete holes in each section and with metal edging.

There is also a neonazi triskel which is using three sevens.

Welcome to the forums!

Peace and Love
