[quote]The first question you have to ask yourself--and no one has yet brought this up--is what you want to use the whip for. If you want to learn how to extinguish candles with a flick of the wrist, then practice extinguishing candles with a flick of the wrist. I think it's more likely that you want to use the whip on another person, and then the first thing you need to know is why that other person wants to be whipped, and why you want to whip him or her.

Learning the skill is really quite mundane--as much as those people in their leather pants like to brag about their proficiency. Learning the reason why you want to acquire the skill in the first place is what separates the people I'm interested in from the munch-and-play-party crowd.

I made a flogger last week, I need to learn that first.

But, may I recommend someone who has experience with them. Preferably lots and lots of experience. Ask for a demostration of their skills in person. Then maybe take lessons and practice practice practice.

Was there ever any doubt pfH?

I didn't address this in my post but I meant to. The question that LaM poses is a very important one and ties into to what I say about intent and the dynamics.

Whipping without premise is boring in my opinion. Whipping with purpose can be very stimulating, delightful and an opportunity for self-growth for all parties involved.

While agreeing with the idea of understanding the reason behind your own deisre to learn how to use a whip and the desire of the bottom to be whipped, I strongly disagree with the first part of your statement.

Learning the skill is hard work. Whips are like any toy we use. They are easy to use badly and difficult to use well. It takes time and commitment to learn to throw a whip well enough to get you to the point at which you should be using it on someone.

All the suggestions about practicing on various targets are great and they should be used to hone your skills.

Throwing a whip is like most anything that requires good eye hand co-ordination. It takes time to learn how to do it. It takes times to get good at it and it takes time to maintain your level of competency.

MmMm Mmmmm Mmmm. I know a certain "whipmaster" who is so good it is like an extension of himself. I got "butterfly kisses" with a bullwhip. Who'd a thunk?!

I was born whipping. It all started with my own embilical cord. I showed that Doc a thing or two about spanking my bottom.
