People jump to conclusions because they have a limited world view. In their world when something like a broken tooth happens from a slap it is because it is abuse. Those of us involved in real time BDSM for any length of time understand that accidents happen and you can't assume that something is wrong or bad unless you get it clarified. People also assume their views on BDSM are the correct ones and for all the talk of tolerance, when they see something that makes them uncomfortable they often react negatively.

This thread reminds me of an email I just got the other day that seems to fit the topic. I got an message on CollarMe from a woman, listed as a dominant female on CM. I had never tried to contact her, and never had any intention of doing so. The message said "No males means no males!". All I had done was to view her profile and put it on my favorites lise. She had started an interesting topic on the message boards, and I really liked what she said about her relationship with her sub, and what she was trying to do. To me, the favorites list is merely a way of bookmarking a profile that has something of interest in it. Nothing more than that. I would never approach a woman who's stated in her profile that she's not interested in single men. It would be a waste of time. I guess she jumped to the conclusion that I was going to approach her, simply because I was interested enough to "bookmark" her profile. Or maybe she considers that interest alone an invasion of her space. Either way, it's foolish and insulting.

Happens to me all the time. I'm getting sort of used to it. There are times you'd have to sit and write 5 pages to explain the whole situation, then ask your question. Even then, I think there would be misconceptions. So, ya end up asking a few things that's pertain to the subject and lo and behold, the whole thing gets misunderstood and sometimes, there's just no way to back into it to correct what the other now thinks. At times I am amazed and think, "Holy Moley, what just happened!" It would probably take 10 pages of explainations trying to reverse it. I usually prefer not to get involved in all that drama directed at me and prefer to merely read here. Until my written communication skills are better, I find it better for me not to respond. Then there are times I swear I'm having a masochisist day and write/respond to something. ~Big
