smilezz -> What the hell is this? LOL! (9/8/2007 11:40:21 AM)

Good morning y'all,

Here is my question for the day:  I took some pictures and went to load them to my Computer.........something i do quite a bit.  I use an Olympus camera with Olympus software.
In conecting to the Computer.......the software comes up and normally i just load it........however.......this came up:  Microsoft C++ runtime library
Uhmmmmm...what the hell?  LOL!  i have not done anything different than i do any other time.  I loaded pictures yesterday just fine.  I have no new programs.....i'm at a loss.  Of course, no one is answering their phones for support either.  ughz!

Any ideas?

I actually did Google.............i think i need to step away from it for a bit, continue my painting and then go back when my brain is not so fried, nothing made sense to me.  *laughs*

You're right.......Google was not my "first" option, i'll go back with a clearer head.

thank you!

C++ is a "programming language", or a program that helps people design and make other programs.  It's likely that the program you're using (for the camera) was made in C++.

The camera program's experiencing a bug.  Sorry, but the information in the OP isn't specific enough to determine what sort of bug.  As such, my advice would be to:
-Back up whatever pictures/vidoes you may which to save;
-Unistall the picture program
-Reinstall it.

C++ runtime files are often files that are common to other programs made in C++.  Have you installed any other new programs before it stopped working?  They may've messed it up.  If you don't recall having done it personally, something like a virus may have.  So, if reinstalling the picture program doesn't do it, I'd recommend:
-Virus scanning the computer and dealing with the detected programs

If nothing works, and you absolutely need to fix it, it may be time to either:
-Hire a professional;
or
-Reformat and reinstall the computer (having made the appropriate back-ups first).

Consulting more for information may yield better advice.

Good luck.

I assume you're using Microsoft Windows Operating System.   C++ runtime is an application library. Many programs use C++ to exchange data with MS Windows and for other purposes.

Try running a Windows Update, and select C++ updates.  It's a shotgun fix, as I dont know what the exact problem is.

Might I also suggest turning your camera into a "virtual hard drive" so you could copy the files directly like you would between file folders.  This way you do not have to deal with the Olympus software interface.

SugarMyChurro -> RE: What the hell is this? LOL! (9/8/2007 1:23:25 PM)

If you are using some kind of card reader or a USB connection you can most likely move the files around as if they were on a removable drive. So if all you want to do is move stuff around from the camera media to a more permanent storage location on the computer (like a hard drive) you most likely can using the operating system's own file interface.

If you don't like the camera software you might want to try Picasa:
http://picasa.google.com/

I can't recommend Picasa myself (I use Photoshop), but I have heard good things about the program.

Definition of madness: doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result.
Definition of computer inexperiance: doing the same thing over and over and expecting the same result.

My computer was crashing when I tried to upload my camera pictures into it. I did have 128 megabites of memory. I bought 1 gigabite of memory on sale for 65 dollars, and no more picture upload problems.

farglebargle -> RE: What the hell is this? LOL! (9/9/2007 5:21:34 AM)

Wait?? SOFTWARE?

Doesn't Windows "just see" the camera as another disk drive when you plug it in? Like E: ?

You should be able to use Windows Explorer to browse that drive, and move pictures around, etc...

sub4hire -> RE: What the hell is this? LOL! (9/9/2007 5:40:45 AM)

That's it then the camera has issue with boring paint and spackle. Give it something to look at and see if it has the same reaction.

Everyone has some good ideas..myself when I have an issue I usually look to the software or windows.
For the person who said "what software"  windows is also software.

I learn more and more about Linux every day. I might not go back.

Maybe the Windoze librarian got bored because \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\PROGRAMS\BillGates wanted to see porn?

On a serious note, the first thing I would ask is have you rebooted.

If that doesnt fix it, have you reloaded the Olympus software.

If that doesnt fix it, have you downloaded new drivers for it.

If that doesnt fix it, have you reimaged your operating system.

If that doesnt fix it, have you replaced the computer.

smilezz -> RE: What the hell is this? LOL! (9/9/2007 9:21:21 PM)

Thanks for all the information........

I did indeed reboot
I did TRY and uninstall the software......it gives me a fatal error, won't let me.
I did try and do some other things that were suggested.

I did finally get ahold of Olympus.......there are updates.

I have a fairly new system.........but with this and a few other issues i have been having, i'm looking at an iMac.

Thanks again.......i appreciate everyone's input and help.

sub4hire -> RE: What the hell is this? LOL! (9/10/2007 9:08:18 AM)

Checked for virus's lately?  If you've been having other issues as well.  Also the software not wanting you to get rid of it.
Maybe some bug got inside of it.

proudsub -> RE: What the hell is this? LOL! (9/10/2007 2:44:58 PM)

Maybe just reinstall your camera software. I've had to reinstall my camera software several time for various reasons, seems to be kind of flakey.

Real0ne -> RE: What the hell is this? LOL! (9/10/2007 3:05:49 PM)

did you do a scandisk or chkdsk?

Finally a defrag?

Your drive may have taken a small hit and need to be cleaned up.

which windows are you using?
