colors as submissive or non submissive? Do certain types of clothing make a submissive look more submissive?

I've had people question my kinkiness due to the colors I wear.  But I've never had anyone question my orientation due to the color.

Just the collar :D

Certain types of clothing are typically associated with different orientations- collars, leashes, hobble skirts, ballet boots, skirts, softer fabrics and stripper clothes for subs and pants, tshirts, hats, gloves, workboots for doms

But that's all stereotypical and really stupid to actually base someones judgement on.

Should of came to the ottawa fetball two nights ago. [:)] I don't think anyone's clothing should dictate who they are, it would be unfortunate if what we wore said who we were.

Hush you! You didn't tell me about it! [;)]

"Colors" in BDSM could be a reference to the gay community that used colors as a code system to mean different things.  The handkerchief "code"  is considered old guard that was used in gay leather clubs.  More current trends don't use colors to be descriptive of orientation or D/s.  However, tradition in many circles does follow the trend that Dominants often wear darker colors.

I've seen first time submissives or bottoms at a play party wear white shirts or blouses. It was their very first time in the group and first time playing in public.
I was told to wear white my first time too.
How about "black and blue" for masochists, or red for sluts, "caution-light amber" for brats, or powder pink for Daddy's girls, and white for "virgin" newbies?

Wondering.... if wearing certain colors can make certain people look weak or sickly if it clashes with their skin tone, would that be submissive?

But maybe what is truly submissive is just wearing the clothing your Dominant tells you to.  [sm=whiteflag.gif]

There were times and cultures in which law regulated the colors both number and combinations that a person could wear based on rank and or caste in that society.

I think it is likely there still are. I'm thinking not just of the examples Archer mentioned, but a sort of informal dresscode of rank that I found in parts of Germany and was not communist China, or for that matter Cuba in to dictating what colours and styles people could wear.
But this, I think, is not quite the spirit of the question. The whole matter of colour and style of clothes is embedded in our culture and fashion is a huge industry based on this. Since the dictates of marketing require change constantly the old rules have been challenged in the search for novelty and to shock.
One thing I have noticed, there being a number of religious cults in the locality, is that they tend to go for simple and perhaps unflattering atire for their women and that, to me suggests a submissive status for them. On the other hand one can argue that unfashionable short skirts on fat bottoms and little legs teetering on high heels - - all in the mind I suppose!

Daddy really doesn't have a colour preference however i tend to stay in the earth tones (browns, blues, yellows, etc) during the fall and winter and soft tones (lilacs, pinks, lime greens, etc) during the spring and summer.

personally - colours don't make the submissive ..the way you carry and handle yourself does

..I don't know that I agree with the idea of how one carries himself makes him look submissive.

I know that I don't agree.  I've been "accused" before of carrying myself with a regal bearing... some might see this as evidence of dominance, but nothing could be farther from the truth.  There can also be a great difference between how a person "carries" themself physically, and how they "carry on" behaviorally.   Of course, I would hope that behaving with grace and dignity, as well as moving with grace and dignity, would be seen as positive traits for both dominant and submissive.

I think I read somewhere that people sometimes use colored handkerchiefs to indicate their position in a D/s relationship (Dom/me, sub, bottom, switch, etc). The location of the handkerchief also means something. This was the first time I ever saw this system used for something other than indicating sexual preference. It's often used in the gay community.

has had this before ... my Grandmother used to make us do the book balancing thing when we stayed with her as children ... we really got put through the ringer at home with regard to posture and pose etc so i cant help but hold myself tall as i walk or sit, ... i remember being taught to kneel in certain poses and the straight back chin up eyes down posture is my comfort zone anyhow.

i cant count the number of times my poise has been critisied for not being submissive (wtf - must have missed that lesson at Twue school)  .. but then One very close to me got a real kick from walking into a room with me standing tall beside Him - the whole she might look dominant to you, but she is as weak as a kitten for me thing

anyhows .. sorry for the hijack

While I admit fetish clothes are fun I guess I have never been much of a slave to fashion (pun alert). Most of us look best in certain colors and that is what we should wear.
