LAS VEGAS -- As in most train wrecks, it was hard to focus on just one thing as the Britney Spears disaster unfolded. There was just so much that went wrong.
Out-of-synch lip-synching. Lethargic movements that seemed choreographed by a dance instructor for a nursing home. The paunch in place of Spears' once-taut belly. At times she just stopped singing altogether, as if even she knew nothing could save her performance.

She's had TWO kids in a relatively short time.  Anyone seen Alex Baldwin lately?  and he HAS no excuse!  While I'm not a fan of Britney, I was just torked by the immediate observations of her body.  Don't ya think the way she made a fool out of herself by her erratic behavior of the past, that she might just be a LITTLE insecure about coming out on stage to perform?  She's just a kid who's fked up her life and trying to get back on track.  (I hope)

Isn't it great to be a female?

Baldwin is clever enough not to put his out of shape body into a Speedo and stumble around on stage.

She deserves what she gets after that performance -- clearly under-rehearsed and not ready for the stage.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: Give her a BREAK! (9/10/2007 11:20:09 AM)

why should we music critics and reviewers give her a break?  it's our job to call it as we see it ...i taped the VMAs (worked last night) and i totally agree with my fellow critics - that was the worse appearance ever ...choreographed for the geriatric generation.

Mercnbeth -> RE: Give her a BREAK! (9/10/2007 11:32:35 AM)

I watched this display with the TV on mute while doing some work in bed this morning. I happen to look up and asked beth why they were showing a "walk through rehearsal" on TV. To me it didn't even look like a "run through". It seems as if it was just a lighting or sound test. When she told me it was the actual performance, I was stunned.

It had nothing to do with how she looked, and everything to do with how bad she moved and 'danced?'. Doing that performance in front of an audience full of professionals and a national TV audience demonstrated amazingly poor judgment.

Whoever the talking head was reviewing the performance had a great point. "She needs a strong dominant adult in her life to protect her from herself."

Any volunteers? I wonder what fetish it would fall under :)

Yeah.. granted the performance isn't all that. I guess I get maternal at times and feel sorry for her.  She "had it all" at a very tender age and thought she could handle it.  But then, maybe "having it all" isn't what it's cracked up to be.

Must be. If i went up on stage in a bikini and tried to hypnotise a crowd with the jiggling of my pendulous belly, i'd get arrested [&o]

While you can get a lot of things from women dancing around in bikinis, good music is never one of them. If she hadn't been hot when she started her career, do you really think anyone would even know her name? She's been rather conspicuously absent from the "best female vocalist ever" threads [:D]

HotFaerieMama -> RE: Give her a BREAK! (9/10/2007 9:09:56 PM)

she should just retire get cleaned up and give the kids to k fed so she can straighten up..

Stephann -> RE: Give her a BREAK! (9/10/2007 9:31:49 PM)

If a painter came to my house, and performed his job the way Spears did on stage, don't you suspect you'd kick his stupid ass out the door without pay?  Possibly suing him for damages?

Why should she receive the pity treatment, when she clearly can't do what she was paid millions to do?

Stephan

FastReply:   Well, you are all talking about her.  Seems to me she's got a brilliant sense of how to lever minimal talent into superstardom.  All those great performers on that show, and only ONE is the subject of all the talk/hype.  Who's the idiot?

E.

domiguy -> RE: Give her a BREAK! (9/10/2007 10:10:22 PM)

It was a brilliant ploy to come out for a major performance; Possibly drugged up, ill prepared and just stumbling around....I used the exact same formula to get through college.

She never sang a note publicly in her life. If she actually writes her own material, one could hardly call it talented. All she could ever do was dance. Not in the well coreographed beautiful ballerina way. In that raw sex appeal way. So of course people are judging her on lack of sex appeal-its all she ever had.

Her target audience, as evidenced by record sales, was always girls looking for a fantasy role model just one developmental stage more human and age acceptable than a barbi doll. Her media exposure was driven by boys too young to buy porn and older men looking for a healthy way to let off pedophallic steam.

Now, a decade later, those boys can buy porn, those girls are almost ready to be trophy wives, and their younger sibling's as well as the older perv's have moved on to younger sex objects.

All she ever was was a marketing vehicle for sex appeal, and now that she's lost it, people are waking up and realizing how much of a waste of media time she really is.

Thats the differeance betweent other washed-out drug addicts who party too much and her like madonna, cher, or strissand-these women can make a comeback every decade, but Spear's has no singing talents to make a comeback with.

To me, any 25 year old who insists that clubbing every night for weeks on end and cocaine /alchohol benders are healthy and a 'normal right of passage' for a mother of two her age is trash. She broke up her husband by text message and refused to hand him/her mother custody of the children at the height of her partying no less. The sooner she's laughed out of the public eye, the sooner her children have a shot at getting a decent mother.

Besides, with her level of income, a semi-decent finacial planner and a bare minimal of restraint would end her need to ever work again...oh boo hoo her family and agent are supposedly coercing her to do it. I'll tell you, I'd need all fingers and toes to count the number of repressed girls from controlling families I've met who've struck it out on their own with far smaller bank accounts and far less prospects.

I think that would fall under the trailer park trash fetish.

I Do appoligize for any who live in a trailer park.

KatyLied -> RE: Give her a BREAK! (9/11/2007 9:00:45 AM)

Well, for someone whose claim to fame is hugely her dancing and body, you'd think she'd either be in better shape or find clothing that is more flattering.  Or both.

Actually, my OP was pointing out that the one thing that was most critisized about her was her figure.

I do agree that at this point she should retired and go in a different direction.  But then I think that every time I see the Rolling Stones :)

Stephann -> RE: Give her a BREAK! (9/11/2007 9:57:26 AM)

Meaning you still pony up a Benjiman to go see them [:D]

I don't see that there's anything wrong with how she looks, I thought she was gorgeous. The performance just sucked.
