iTouch infared trash can!  I ordered one for my kitchen thru Amazon.  I just got it this morning and I LOVE it.  Looks like an ordinary kitchen can..and when you need to toss something away.. just hold your hand over the can, the lid opens.. and voila!

(It also helps that I'm easily entertained:)

I'm just a gadget freak:

I've got a Scooba, a Roomba, remote control ceiling fans, a remote start on my van, a Garmin GPS
navigator, my infared trash can and a Hitachi magic wand :)

I soooooo want an iRobot Create... My inner geek just wants to pervert it so badly...

And I'm evil for seeing the potential of having a Magic Wand powered by the internals of a PackBot, aren't I?

Having an aerospace engineer as my slave, I had him perve a remote control Radio Shack car rigged to operate a vibrator at 40 feet :)

oh my big dog would love that...a trash can he doesn't have to knock over, he just waits hovering there and it opens magically....

http://www.instructables.com/tag/keyword:irobot

specifically: http://www.instructables.com/id/EJQOKWXF6B7Q1AZ/ and http://www.instructables.com/id/ECXG9VGF54HMCYX/

The same control surfaces that work the variable speed motors in the iRobot/Roomba will operate other VSMs... such as in a stand mixer or sawz-all... But that's another flavor of toy...

Seems like there's a Steven Wright joke in there somewhere... "My motorized trash can broke the other day... I can't fix it, but I can't figure out where to throw it away"

i want a Roomba so badly! With four cats, the comedy potential of a motorized doodad that scoots along at floor level is irresistable (especially one that picks up cat hair!)

The funniest thing is not my cats (they ignore it), but my parrot.  I can tell when it's getting close to his cage.  He starts greeting it and asking "what ya doin'" ??   Then as it retreats, he says "Bye-bye"

Those are awesome! I saw them at Sam's Club once and I just stood there forever, waving my hand to open it and let it shut and then did it all over again!

Hehe, that's awesome! i'll tell you though, if i spend $250 on a robotic vacuum, i'll be damned if i'm not going to get some entertainment out of it... i'll keep attaching shit to it until it either freaks out the cats or burns to the waterline!

(Yeah, i'll be the guy standing at the return desk at Costco lookin' all sketchy... "Uhh, i dunno, it musta gotten caught under a chair or somethin'")
