Tomorrow is Septemeber 11. I knew people on the plane that hit the Pentagon. Please tell those that you care for, your friends, family and lovers, how much you care for them. You never know when you might see them again.

We've all had losses, my friend.  Each death of a loved one impresses upon us the mortal nature of our existence; that we are all going to die, and that we need to make the most of the time we do have.

My daughter and some of her friends who are semi-pro wrestlers are particpating in a wrestling show tomorrow to pay tribute to those involved in September 11th, and to our troops still involved in conflicts for our country.  It's free to all servicemen/women.  There will be a pageant with the girls, who will all be dressed in World War II "pin-up girl" fashions.  The group is really psyched to be able to do this small thing for the troops, and just to honour them in any way they can.

To any servicemen or women reading this...  "Thank you."

Sorry for your loss.

I`m going to Eagle Rock Reservation,in NJ.There is a wonderful view of  NYC`s skyline there, and once six years ago,one could see the Twin Towers, as plain as day.

There is a memorial there now, with the almost 3000 names, of the victims who fell that day.

God bless all those lost & all those that are still living with the nightmare of either being in the towers or knowing someone that was there, such a terrible tragedy will never be forgotten & most definately will not be forgiven.

I will never forget that day. I spent the evening glued to my television screen. I simply could not believe what I was seeing.

The footage of people wandering through NYC with "Missing" posters with pictures of their loved ones on them, just tore my heart out.

After a day or two of watching all about that on tv, I was getting super weirded out and irritable, and my husband made me turn off the tv. I could not stop crying.

I remember being worried because I live in Omaha, the Strat-Com (Air Force) headquarters. We were wondering if this city was not perhaps the perfect next target for whatever terrorists did the NYC Twin Towers bombing - and some peope who live here spent a few days just biting our nails over that.

I remember being very concerned over what my neices and nephew were thinking about it all - because they were still just kids then. I was praying for them, that they would not be scared (plus of course the poor New Yorkers).

Some families here even stocked up on food and water, in case they had to "hide out" or go "underground" - and there was a run on food and bottled water at some grocery stores here. It was a very weird few weeks, afterward, here in Omaha, NE.

Yes, it is just still so sad to even think about it.

Well no matter what the details re: How it actually happened, over 3,000 people died - I think most can agree that is pretty sad, right?

Anyway, I think so. My heart still goes out to those poor families - and all of the people who have had similar types of bombings in Indonesia, Britain, Madrid, etc., too.

See? I just knew you were not a heartless bastard, Rule.

You want details - I  don't know any, though. Probably some might, but I don't keep up with that stuff (maybe ask RealOne, and that is not a slam - he keeps up with some of this kind of information. My guess is, he has some. Really.)

I am a heartless bastard that cares. I will not act sanctimoniously about dead people. Dead is dead and it is for the God of the Dead to judge them. Bury them and do not look back, as we say in The Netherlands ("zand erover"). I am not interested in sob stories, only in facts.

It may never happen. Most of the people that I have blocked simply used an illigible or freaky font. He did in a negative way draw my attention now, though, and I will both study his psychology and pay attention to his future behaviour.

Not to be insensitive, but about 150.000 people died that day, about 3.000 of them by suicide. By comparison, this was less than a minor footnote in the history of death, whereas the aftermath was more significant, not to mention the original 9/11 intervention in Chile and so forth. Death is always a tragedy, but I must admit my initial thought was more along the lines of "damn, now they're going to fuck up the world", which has been spot on, so far.

So I'd rather remember the 1906 9/11 (Ghandi), along with the 150.000 people who die every year that day, until such time as the US realizes that what goes around comes around, and stops passing things around that will later bite innocent civilians in the ass...

I'm not pissing on anyone's memory, just refreshing memory in general, to offer some perspective.

My apologies to anyone this post may have offended.

Health,
al-Aswad.

And?
9-11 is no different than any other day in history that people died.  And why tell people how much you care just because you 'might not see them again'?  Whatever happened to people saying I love because they mean it and not because of some stupid guilt factor?
Pointless.

The problem with many Americans - from the Commander-in-Chief downwards - is that they truly do not understnd the effect they, their words, their attitudes and their actions have in the larger world.

It's like Michael Douglas in the film "Falling Down" when he's confronted with the facts.  He asks incredulously, "What, you mean I'm the bad guy?"

I am not saying the American problem is unique - the British have had their own problems in the past, as have many other nations with Imperial ambitions.  But none seems to learn from the other or from history.  Who draws the distinction between Freedom Fighter and Terrorist?  The people responsible for the 9/11 and other attacks were NOT Muslims.  They thought they were.  Many of the victims - direct and indirect - believe they were.  Much of the backlash has been again Muslims and Islam.  But throughout history religion has been distorted and manipulated to suit political ends, and this is just a continuation of that process.

Remember your dead.  Grieve for them and those who knew them, and celebrate their lives.  Condemn those who organised the attacks, and revile them.  But their countries, their religions, are not guilty.

Look at yourselves through the eyes of those who attacked you, and try to UNDERSTAND why they did what they did.  Look at yourselves and ask "Am I, could I possibly be, the bad guy?"  You seek to heal the world of the ills you perceive it to be suffering.  But does it perceive itself to be suffering?  How does it view your intervention?

Physician, heal thyself.

"The blade itself incites to violence" - Homer

Nations are never right, nor wrong.  They have interests and power.  The most powerful nations, by their nature, commit the greatest atrocities.  The only real solution is the dissolution of nations and power.  This is hardly in the interests, of those who currently possess power.  This is not the fault of any one nation, but the fault of all men.  Thus, our children will pay our blood-fines.

Stephan

my sentiments exactly ...and it's clearly expressed as well in my journal. 9/11 is just another day for me and i'm going to treat it as such as i go out shopping, working etc. i don't need to use it as day calling my friends and family to tell them how much i love them ...get real.  i can do that on any other day - but not on a day like 9/11 because it's a day of remembrance.

Yes and at a guess American.

I can understand the sensitivity of 9/11 but if it can't be talked about in any other terms than maukish sentimentality, such events will keep happening.

I can't figure out why my post was cesored, it wasn't rude or irreverent or anything what could have been construed as such.

There is a time and a place for everything - even talk about the politics and wrightness or wrongness, the significance of the event in the larger scope of things world wide etc..... but nows not the time.  Respect the day and what it may mean for some people.  Even if you hate someone you wouldn't go to his funeral and preach what  a nasty bastard he was - at least hopefully you wouldn't.
