fp2012 -> Harry Potter! (7/15/2005 3:30:19 PM)

Hey there, who all's excited for the new Harry Potter book coming out tomorrow? Me, I'm heading off to borders books to pick up my copy of The Halfblood Prince tonight at midnight. I'm deciding whether or not to dress up. Maybe I'll just drag a broom along with me lol. I'm kind of curious as to how many adults read the series and their thoughts on it. It's mainly a children's book, but I know lots of adults who follow it very closely. Any predictions for book 6?
Cheers,
~fp

Isn't Harry supposed to die by his 16th birthday? I guess I'm a fan...my dom is a big fan. So we've read all of the books and seen all of the movies.

Don't know if I were a child it would have held my interest but it's ok as an adult.

Quivver -> RE: Harry Potter! (7/15/2005 3:38:30 PM)

The line was pretty long this afternoon just to reserve a copy. hee heeee, kept the boy busy while mom got to search for *other* titles. hee hee

I'm going at midnight to pick up my reserved copy, too. I absolutely love the series. It makes me feel silly sometimes - like when I held a 20 minute conversation with an 11-year-old the other day about the fifth book. I was so caught up in talking about it, then looked up and noticed several adults just staring. Oh, well...I bet some of them go home tomorrow night and steal their kid's book while they're sleeping. Just to keep tabs on what junior is reading, of course. Yeah, that's it.
It's rare that a book comes along that can make an adult regress into a kid again just by reading it. I forget sometimes just how much fun it was to live in an imaginary world for a few hours with a good story. The Harry Potter books remind me.

Yup, yup! Haven't gone so far as to reserve an advanced copy, but I'm pretty sure we'll have a copy within the next couple of weeks [:D]

I have zero personal interest in Harry Potter, have read zero books, but I will be picking up a reserve copy somehwere around midnight tonight at Master's request.

dominmd -> RE: Harry Potter! (7/15/2005 6:09:59 PM)

I don't follow the books, but I follow the movies. I know the book is always better. AND I have to say, I like HP better than Lord of the Rings movies. HP just seems more real and believable.

softandshy -> RE: Harry Potter! (7/15/2005 6:35:44 PM)

Loved the books and the books on tape (the reader is excellent), but thought the movies just confused things. These books appeal to the misfit child that's left in me. i was Hermione (minus the magic) when i was growing up, at least in school and with peers. There's a lot to identify with in the books, and they're entertaining too. Now the Harry Potter LEGO sets are beyond words! What fun!

FelinePersuasion -> RE: Harry Potter! (7/15/2005 7:22:13 PM)

I ove them. I was introduced to one in school. I was like what harry potter this is english class not kiddie class, and I soon fell in love with the books.

I saw lord of the rings btw and it sucked. By the end of the first one I was bored out of my friggen skull.

I'm a fantasy nut in general. Saw all the LotR movies, loved them, thought the books were better. Been reading all the HP books even though I won't be able to read HBP for a week or so, don't like the movies as much.

My sister and I call each other Fred and George, if that's a clue to our mutual obsession.

I work at a book store. Tonight was SO MUCH fun. I dressed up as a Ravenclaw student and got to ask a bunch of little kids in robes trivia questions.

There's a reason I'm going ot be a children's librarian. :)

I won't be picking the book up till tomorrow, because I couldn't stand to be at work from 1 to 1.

Incedentally, a movie-inspired Hogwarts uniform makes me want to do wizard pr0n so bad.

YAY I have my copy now!!! I just spent the last 4 hours hanging out at a local Haggens with my friends dressed in a gryffendor quidditch shirt, painting chopsticks (wands), and rolling paper into cones (witches hats). It was fun, they had the movies going and everything. I too am a fantasy nut, love LOTR (the books are better, but the movies still kick-ass), just picked up the Chronicles of Narnia (can't wait for the movie - Dec. 9th), and am almost done with Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

My best friend and I go by Merry and Pippin. But Fred and George are my two favorite characters in HP. lol I freaked all of my friends out earlier tonight - they were saying things like "I want Ron" or "I want Harry". So I chimed in with: "I want Fred and George... at the same time!" It was great!

CalliopePurple -> RE: Harry Potter! (7/16/2005 12:09:35 PM)

I want them, too! Maybe we can share...oh, and I now wanna let a Bludger at my sister for calling me (waking me up no less) to tell me one little thing about HBP and tease me. Damn sadist, she is.

siamsa24 -> RE: Harry Potter! (7/16/2005 6:31:08 PM)

Have it, got it at 12:01 (I had the first copy in the whole store [:D] ). Currently on chapter 3 and will hopefully have lots of time for reading this week

fp2012 -> RE: Harry Potter! (7/16/2005 11:20:14 PM)

OMG I am so freaking out. I just started it, and my friend told me that her sister, who is almost done with the book already, was crying while reading it in her room. I don't want to hear any spoilers, but damn! It's got me so curious and nervous! Just a heads up, be prepared for something emotional!

CalliopePurple -> RE: Harry Potter! (7/16/2005 11:29:48 PM)

One of my best friends cried, too. That's all she told me, though it's been hard not to read the review she left on her LJ as it would be spoiler filled.

softandshy -> RE: Harry Potter! (7/18/2005 9:48:49 AM)

Just in relation to this. Is anyone interested in fanfiction? i go to www.harrypotterfanfiction.com from time to time, and some of it is really good.

siamsa24 -> RE: Harry Potter! (7/18/2005 10:41:47 AM)

Just finished it and was in tears by the end. I won't say any more, but I was fully sobbing by the last chapter

sweetnygirl -> RE: Harry Potter! (7/18/2005 7:08:55 PM)

I finished it Sat night & had to reread the end to make sure I read it correctly and then I cried again when I realized I did. I'm just hoping that in the last book we find out it was just an illusion, wishful thinking on my part I'm sure. I'm torn between wanting the final book to come out but not wanting any more characters I like be killed off.

siamsa24 -> RE: Harry Potter! (7/18/2005 7:22:09 PM)

I agree. I was so upset that I want to forget that I read it and have her come out with a new one that says "Just kidding, here's what really happens....."
