cuffnspankme -> Pet Peeve (9/12/2007 2:16:55 PM)

I am going to be petty and bitchy with this post...and I am not sorry if you don't like it.

We are all supposed to be intelligent adults here, right? If we are, WHY are there SO many posts and threads riddled with misspellings and typos? It takes two seconds to backspace to fix things or even to hit the edit button and fix things. I admit that an occasional mistake will get by me and I don't see it until its too late to fix it. But I find it to be very annoying and feel as if its not worth my time to read the posts that are filled with mistakes. Why should I read a thread or post that the OP/author could not take the time to fix? And some of the threads do not make sense in so many ways. Its like you have to be in the OPs head to really understand what they mean and are asking. Am I the only one that feels this way? Maybe if something is said, in private, to the offenders they may do something to change their habits. Just my thoughts and some pent up frustration being let out.

some of us- have carpal tunnel in both wrists- and should not even be online. if you dont know carpal tunnel pain, it really is set to happen to the very many.

im guilty.

[but] it beats sitting around feeling sorry for myelf.

It is slothfull- just to set the record straight...I am not drunk or under the influence so badly that I cant type.

So there ya go....

camille65 -> RE: Pet Peeve (9/12/2007 3:20:57 PM)

There are so many people that struggle with written communication. Dyslexics, those that don't know the English language well have problems. I keep that in mind while I'm reading (reading dyslexia is weirdly easy for me).
Where that doesn't help is when I am reading someone who uses run-on sentences that last a paragraph. Or someone who has never met a comma they liked. [;)] I don't know why they do it.
There is a small number of posters who type so badly that I now skip. It is harsh but if they don't make the effort then I won't either. Sloppiness and laziness do irritate me.

adoracat -> RE: Pet Peeve (9/12/2007 3:24:03 PM)

my method of typing is type, backspace, retype, backspace, curse, backspace...

and i still occasionally miss a few typos.  i hear ya on the carpal tunnel, pahunk, i have a wrist that dislocates, thank you very much ex-husband!

ah well.  i at least do paragraph breaks, and i dont type in all-caps (which i literally cannot read) or in funky pale colors, which i also cannot read.

before I got carpal tunnel - I thought it was an overly exaggerated injury. What it is- the bundle of nerves that pass thru the wrist bone hole- the nerve brush against the bone to the point of destroying the nerve. Some get so bad they can not handle dinner plates and day to day functioning. I had the injections, and the Physical therapy. I did not have the surgery. This surgery can only be done 3 times in ones lifetime=- the reason being is the scar tissue builds up. They simply can not do the surgery a 4th time.

I am sorry to hear about your violent ex. That is awefull!

I also had a nerve decompression surgery on my one hand. The surgeon was on the team of drs flown in when Reagan was shot. I wear that scar proudly. I was able to access the dr who is good enough for the prez. :-)

camille65 -> RE: Pet Peeve (9/12/2007 3:39:57 PM)

Hehe someone went off on my for saying the same thing! 'Cept it wasn't a funky pale one.
Try highlighting the text. I was having problems with that as well.
That and italics. Oh and teensy fonts.

YourhandMyAss -> RE: Pet Peeve (9/12/2007 4:07:30 PM)

Me personally, it's cause I don't care, and it's not a big deal to me to have a few mis spelling's or typo's.

carpal tunnel is a bitch to live with...mama had the release done twice now, one of my aunts has had it three times.  so genetically i'm predisposed to problems.  plus i have other nervous system problems so my fine motor skills are about kaput anyway....

my ex is an ex for good reason.  but i'm nearly at 16 years divorced from him, so its all good.  :)

that IS a good surgeon recommendation then!

kitten, who is in pain most days, but still keeps going...

e01n -> RE: Pet Peeve (9/12/2007 6:43:45 PM)

My laptop's keyboard is being very glitchy recently... I try to catch what I can, but I often miss some typos as I try to get the thoughts out.

litleone8620 -> RE: Pet Peeve (9/12/2007 7:17:04 PM)

~Fast Reply~

I am totally anal about my own misspellings and grammar mistakes. I don't care so much about other people's. I figure people are going to misspell and make grammar mistakes anyway; despite my bitching and complaining about it. So usually I try to decipher it anyway I can, and just deal with it.

nyrisa -> RE: Pet Peeve (9/12/2007 8:50:50 PM)

Someone posted that there is a spell check feature on this forum. If so, I have not figured it out yet, but there are free spell check sites, and it only takes a couple of extra mouse clicks to use it. If I am guilty of only a few typos, I don't bother with it. I think a couple here and there just serve as proof that we are not disgustingly perfect. *grins* But for folks whose posts are riddled with typos, it would help them a lot to use spellcheck. That way, what they are saying will be the focus, not the frustration of the reader when faced with having to decode the message.

chellekitty -> RE: Pet Peeve (9/12/2007 9:03:21 PM)

tries not to post while in the middle of seizures and only subjects close friends to those kinds of typos...however i hate capitalization and use......liberally...i try to use commas properly though....it drives me nuts when people can't figure out the difference between words like there, their and they're or to, too and two, or your and you're...but i try not to correct them, except in my head, or outloud if i am reading it to someone, cause my momma said i can't have any more pets...

Youresomine -> RE: Pet Peeve (9/12/2007 9:07:53 PM)

If such things frustrate you to the point that you must rant on a post about it perhaps you need some hobbys. Perhaps you have flaws that irritate others?

Youresomine -> RE: Pet Peeve (9/12/2007 9:09:18 PM)

whoops! I mean hobbies.

TemptingNviceSub -> RE: Pet Peeve (9/12/2007 9:18:40 PM)

You certainly have a right to be frustrated ,if that is what you feel..I guess I am envious of someone who is frustrated by such.For if this is the height of frustration for you, then you lead an unbelievably charmed life...Tempting

cuffnspankme -> RE: Pet Peeve (9/12/2007 9:22:17 PM)

If my posting about something that irritates me and obviously a few others bothers you I feel the need to ask why you bothered to post. I have actually found out a lot with my posting of this. And I never said I was perfect and didn't have any irritating habits myself. But since you don't know me and are just making a rash judgement due to something that I have posted that I felt was very valid I guess you feel justified. I hope things are all happy and good in your little world there. I know they are in mine, thanks.

Thank you to the rest for your silly and serious posts. As I said I have learned a lot, had my eyes opened to a few things as to reasons why some are the way they are. And that is all I am going to say at this time.
