ORIGINAL: RRafe Really more tolerant? Or just as bad as others we dislike? I guess I disagree with just about everyone here. ::laughs:: I've found that, generally speaking, there is more tolerance for more things among the members of the kink community. Body types are not as much of an issue, kinky people don't think flogging someone is abusive so consent is accepted much more often as a buffer to do some of the riskier activities that are frowned upon in the vanilla world. Of course, somethings are still considered taboo among the general kink populace, but far less than outside that group. There are, of course, extremists, but, overall, are you going to find a whole lot of people in the kink community that think that bondage is flat out wrong and sick and the people who partake of it in dire need of mental health therapy? How many vanillas think that serving someone is just wrong and that by serving someone you are somehow being degraded rather than uplifted? How many kinksters have problems with submission? I mean, shear numbers alone on the stuff that's in the middle of the bell curve seems to indicate that there is less tolerance amongst vanillas. See, I take the entire spectrum into account when I weigh this question, not just the extremes that so many 'people' get squicked by and when I take in the whole enchilada, that's my conclusion. For me, it's live and let live and in the grand scheme, taking everything into account, I believe that is a mindset which is more common among the BDSM group than it is among the vanilla populace.
