cyberdude611 -> Be Aware.. Bank of America raising ATM fees (9/13/2007 7:08:15 PM)

If you are not a customer of Bank of America, you may not want to use their ATMs. They have raised the fees for non-customers to $3.00.

"In order to maintain and grow (our) network, it's appropriate to charge people who are not our customers," Bank of America spokeswoman Betty Riess said. "We want to provide the most convenient ATM access for our customers."

Anyone who pays an atm fee, is wasting money in the 1st place.

You think that's bad, Wells Fargo is charging to cash their own checks (written by their customers). $5.00 I think it is, for a payroll check written from a Wells Fargo account.

You mean Bank of The Antichrist. Oh, I had one of my first accounts there. And I had over draft protection on both checking and savings. I had no money in either and they still let me withdrawl. And for the 2 years they have harasssed me for the $35  I owe them. Bastards.

sub4hire -> RE: Be Aware.. Bank of America raising ATM fees (9/14/2007 6:24:12 AM)

How much was it before?  Isn't it something like if you don't use your own banks atm your bank charges you a fee.  Plus the bank who the atm belongs to also charges you a fee?

TheHeretic -> RE: Be Aware.. Bank of America raising ATM fees (9/14/2007 6:50:10 AM)

I stopped giving Bunch of Assholes any opportunity to make money off me quite a while back.  Their policies on check cashing for non-account holders amount to refusing to honor the checks of their customers.  I was already willing to spend $5 in gas to not give them the old ATM fee.

pahunkboy -> RE: Be Aware.. Bank of America raising ATM fees (9/14/2007 6:52:00 AM)

i stick with credit unions. they arent as silly as banks. hmm didnt we bail out a bunch of savings and laons in the 80s??

camille65 -> RE: Be Aware.. Bank of America raising ATM fees (9/14/2007 6:57:40 AM)

Why would anyone expect to use an ATM [from a bank not their own] without a surcharge? That makes no sense to me.

that reminds me of the privacy list. how is it private when one company owns another so on and so forth. and if today they dont tommorrow they do. if ATMs were such a favor they would sell postage stamps....

Rich:
I never heard them called that before but it certainly fits.
Several years ago The state of Nevada sent me a couple of refund checks for my vehicle registration(it seems that the state had more money than it needed and wanted to give some of it back to its citizens)
The two state checks were drawn on the bank of assholes and when I tried to cash them at a bank of assholes branch in California (it was a huge amount almost a hundred dollars) the teller told me that there would be a three dollar per check charge to cash them.
[:D]Yeah I had a fucking field day... at about ten db above earshattering... I demanded a manager and wanted to know why they wanted to charge me for cashing their check in their bank.  I doubt I could have drawn a bigger crowd if I'd had Pammie Anderson nake(nake being the present tense of naked) on a leash.
Yes I got my money without paying to get it and an apology from the mgr.[:D]

In Britain none of the major banks charge for using their ATMs, no matter what bank your own account may be with.

Some used to, and found their ATMs being boycotted or vandalised.

pahunkboy -> RE: Be Aware.. Bank of America raising ATM fees (9/14/2007 7:12:43 AM)

i did not think it was legal for a bank to charge to cash its own check.

camille65 -> RE: Be Aware.. Bank of America raising ATM fees (9/14/2007 8:36:59 AM)

I've run into that, a $5.00 fee for cashing a check on their bank when I don't have an account there.
When that happens I either cash it at my bank, or deposit it into one of my accounts.

Wouldn't planning ahead and using your own bank solve most of these problems?
One of the ways banks make money is through ATM fees.  If you aren't the bank's customer you should pay a fee.  Someone has to do the work for the ATM, such as putting money in it and balancing the transactions.  This stuff doesn't just magically happen without people intervention.

camille65 -> RE: Be Aware.. Bank of America raising ATM fees (9/14/2007 8:49:06 AM)

Yup. People pay for the convienence (wow sp lol) of using another banks ATM. I just don't get the complaining about it, seems obvious to me that using another banks ATM would incur some surcharge.

pahunkboy:
It is illegal and that is why I raised hell about it.  Just because it is illegal does not stop a bank from doing it to the unsuspecting.
I do not have a bank account anywhere.  That is the reason I went to the bank the check was drawn on.

KatyLied:
Yes banks make a ton of money off of ATMs but not the way you think.  Think of how many tellers they do not have to hire to do the job of the robot.  The charging of another banks customer to use the robot is just so much crap.

Mayhem1703 -> RE: Be Aware.. Bank of America raising ATM fees (9/14/2007 12:10:16 PM)

Actually, it's not illegal in PA...  I went through that with a couple banks...  If you live near NJ, though, go to a branch out there...  Jersey they don't allow banks to charge...  PA they do.

KatyLied -> RE: Be Aware.. Bank of America raising ATM fees (9/14/2007 12:15:48 PM)

Banking is a business, just like any other publicly held business, it is there to make money for its shareholders.  It's not operating solely as a public service to save consumers (who are too dumb to shop around) money.  I have yet to see a robot who transfers the money in and takes the reciepts out an an ATM machine.  I know it's not like that where I live.
