OK; you've got her floating. Now, you've decided it's time for sensation play.
  What do you do?
I know what I do. But I've seen other Doms playing with their subs, and they seem to use different strategies for deciding what to do, and when.
Basically, I use what amounts to a variation on that old Japanese military strategy, "Mountain-Sea", with a twist. I do pain, then pleasure. rough, then soft. Cold, then hot. Then, when I get the feeling the sub seems to be noticing a pattern, I break the routine.
Of course, all sensation play depends on how the sub is reacting to what you're doing; I'm not suggesting anything else. And, of course, whatever you do also depends heavily on your knowledge of the sub you're playing with. As far as I'm concerned, these go without saying.
So; what do you do, to make your sensation play stand out, to make it memorable? Better then the competition?

Mood that strikes me a the moment dictates what I do. That and what I've brought with me when not at home. Heh.

Knife blade is fun at times like that, or the Wartenburg wheel. Satiny gloves. Fingernails. Muscle massage. Dragging rope over  the flesh (being mindful of the burn rate.. or not!). Clothespins. Ice. Wax. The slow caress of suede falls from a flogger. A hand at the throat, either to just hold or to slowly stifle bloodflow to the brain for a short while.

I guess the long and short of it is.. there are too many factors. Lame, I suppose, but the best answer I can give. If in a cold dungeon, and I don't want to stop the scene because she's shivering constantly, ice play doesn't get factored in. Things like this. I must admit, though, that I routinely go back to knives. It's a fetish. :) And it's here that I definitely adhere to RACK, not SSC.

Well, it's not 'what' I do but something I've come to enjoy quite a bit..

Mistress likes to play a little game from time to time; guess it could be called "guess what I have"

Blindfold her then use an insane variety of items and make her guess what it is.  Pain for incorrect answers, pleasure for correct ones.

She uses everything from an unsharpened pencil to a cold peach sliced in half with the pit removed....and umm yea... i got that one wrong.  lol  Trying to focus on what is being used and figure out what it is when you're already floating.....[:)]

I like to use the blindfold to keep my sub guessing.  she knows our toys so I like to switch things up a bit...wax, ice, clothepins, satiny rope, heat/breath activated lube, ginger root. There are so many fun things to do but it all depends on the agreed upon limits.  If you WOW her with pleasure/pain rewards, it will surely leave an impression. Do what ever feels right in the moment; that's when I enjoy it the most along with my sub.

If you start from a position of comfort and end in a position of comfort, you can get away with just about anything in between.

The only trick is convincing your partner that they'll end in a position of comfort. if they don't believe that, then they'll bail on you in the middle.

I generally start easy, soft, warmish, and escalate from there. Sometimes the escalation goes far and fast. Sometimes it doesn't, but rather builds very slowly. If it goes too fast, then I rock. I build to a local maxima, then back off a bit for a rest, then rebuild. Sometimes I'll build past their current tolerance or ability to maintain, then back off and build it again.

At the end there's generally a ramp down, although sometimes the ramp down is gentle and sometimes it's somewhat abrupt. Sometimes the "ramp down" is really just a holding pattern intended to indicate that it's time for them to make their mental way back to the here and now, please.

That's for sensation in a particular line. I also mix sensations, which is a completely different dimension.
