I wasn't sure which topic to post this under. This is a quickie. I'm new to collarme, and I've found a wealth of info on these boards. Which leads me to my most recent disappointment. I notice how often times, a subject will come up that deviates from the original post. Some veteran will say 'this has been discussed before, etc...' So to avoid repeated rehashing of subjects, I went back through old threads. I found some great ones but one in particular brought up more questions for me. The problem is, it was ended about 3 weeks ago (due to a degeneration of discussion into flaming). If I wanted to pick that subject up again, do I just start a new one? Or do I need to go back to the original?

I suspect trying to revive the other thread is useless because it degenerated into flaming. So I'd suggest starting a new thread aiming at aspects of that topic that you feel were missed the first time around. And you might include a link to that thread with a comment just so folks know you've looked at it but didn't find useful info.

I think it's best to revive the thread rather than start another on the same idea, it helps keep related information in the same place.

Yes, threads unravel and flow and shift, it's the nature of good conversation- one thing always leads to another. You learn to go with it or redirect it or not.

Don't let the flamers win. If there is something in the old thread that you'd still like to discuss, make a new thread explaining what you want to talk about.

When regulars say that something has been discussed before, they're not necessarily trying to discourage you or sabotage your thread. When I do it, my purpose is to get people to read up on what has already been said. If there are things you want to talk about after that, then by all means speak up.

There really isn't a consensus on your question. I like the idea of continuing an old thread, but a problem it can raise is if the thread is significantly old - say, three months or more since the last post.

People change their minds and people move on in their lives, as well. By digging up an older thread there is possibility that readers will try to engage in dialogue people who no longer visit Collarme or who no longer support a former position... and who now don't appreciate having it shown to their face (and the world).

I guess I would put in some kind of disclaimer, stating that you are reviving an old thread and suggest people look at the dates before they post.

luvdragonx: hello [:D] and welcome to the forums and posting. There is a wealth of information here isn't there! i know what you mean...i also am very grateful for what i have found here. my guess would be if you start a new thread, you will get the feedback you are looking for. As opposed to posting to a sleeping thread, no one may be visiting anymore.

[&o] Speaking of sleeping threads? i made an apology to the forum as a whole, now i wonder as you bring this up? if it will ever be seen? So to All here on the past issue of "ptsd" &"abuse"(seperate posts) Writing publicly about about two issues, that at the time, i was way too sensitive emotionally about, to see straight. i would like to apologize sincerely, plunging ahead, and in my careless state, as my other apology says, i made what i can see now, as an inflamitory comment. (about moccassins, and the talk) sheesh[:'(] not being ready yet, to share on either. As someone very wise commented, the words we post carry weight. i need to take my time, go slowly, and think carefully before hitting the send button. i wish to be an asset in my sharing not a liability. And i fully realize the responsibility for how this forum functions, believing IMHO that it lies on each of us individually. For me, i do take it seriously, even moreso now, and want to edit my sharing always so that it is caring, supportive, having good message board etiquette, as well as sharing correct information [:)] And i Do Not Ever Want to do ANY harm to Anyone!

apologize about my etiquette in the past.

Myself I'd start a new thread. That way it is current.

Many good people have moved on. If I really wanted answers I'd also search out the old thread's. There is a wealth of info in there...in many cases better than we can answer it now.

It is a bit hard to ask someone to clarify a question when they haven't logged onto collarme in over a year.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll keep reading and if I'm still not satisfied, I'll start a new thread with reference to the old one.

I see no problem with starting a new thread. One of us will probably post a link to the old ones on the same subject for those who want more info. When we do that we are not criticizing anyone for starting a new thread. I think you are one of the few newbies who has taken the time to search topics first, good for you.[:)]

You must not be a member of many online forumns. This happens everywhere. One word could trigger the post to take a new direction. An anology could get un-expected results. ITs just a normal thing and I admit ive been guilty of it but ahwell.

It was actually a post on money slaves, but between the time I posted this question, someone had 'revived' the thread (plus a few more) so I didn't have to do anything! It's good to hear though and I'll take the advice of everyone under advisement, thank you.
