Wondering- my grandparents were snowbirds for about 15 years. They winterized their PA 5 bedroom colonial house; the cash saved on heat almost paid for their campsite in a gated retired camp. [Webster Florida] My grandfather was very frugal when he was alive.

So my question is this: being that thee retirement boom is on the horizen- is there any particular investments that would be good.

Here in PA, there are so many snowbirds the state set up a partial year auto registration for its citizens.

I dont want to live year round in the sunbelt- I am must maintain PA as my permanent residence.

How would you pursue the snowbird thing?

Mind you; my income is limited. I am not rich- tho my expenses are with in reason.

Am I too late to do this?  I read things are too highly priced.

One thing too. I dont believe my grandparents went far enough south.

OH;  the most important part; I wonderred about a family camp. As mom and my brother have simmilliar thoughts.

While my brother could afford the good life. Mom and I are on a budget- and we dont wish to be dependent on him.

Add you comments- pls.

Thanks!!!

'Rebounders' are the new snowbirds. The cost of living and medical care are pushing many retirees to look at NC and VA as better destinations than FL.

We get a lot of "Snowbirds" from up North and Canada here in Myrtle Beach!
The weather is very nice here in Dec, Jan, Feb.
It averages 59 degrees in Jan.
It can go down to the high 20's at night time but then the 50's or 60's.
The first year I was here I was wearing shorts for one week in Jan when it was in the 70's.
Many people don't like it being in the 90's on Christmas day like in S. Florida.
The Carolinas and San Diego have some of the nicest weather in the country.
And, it's very reasonable to live here.
You can get a nice condo here for $129-$159k, 3 beds 2 baths.
Try doing that up North.
And the taxes on it are a fraction of up North too.
I'm a "permanent" Snowbird here!

My grandparents were snowbirds...(i'm from Michigan) they owned a few acres in Fl and would go every winter for as long as they were able. The land they owned was in a place called Zephyrhils, FL.
