popeye: Which one? The grayish-black one, or the stripey Tabby one in the middle, or the Calico at the end? All are cute, IMO (so Bubba must be cute, too. And I guess I've watched this video a few times today)...

Susan, I'm so sorry for your loss.  I'm so glad you have the comfort of knowing he went peacefully with you loving him and petting him.

The video was beautiful, and I'm blubbering like a baby, too[:)]  I've seen the poem many times, but never the video.  I'm going to save it to my computer to send along to friends who have to say good-bye to their beloved ones.

Take care.

Funny, but there is an actual bridge here in Idaho with that same name. It's a big, beautiful, old bridge, too.

Susan, i am so sorry for the loss of Oscar. (Our surviving cat's name is Oscar btw)

There is a place near us called All Pets Go to Heaven, and they have a web site where for a small fee you can create an online memorial.
http://www.allpetsgotoheaven.com/default.aspx

We lost our beloved cat, Smoky, of 15 yrs about 2 weeks ago, and the vet sent me that poem along with a cat angel pin, which i thought was very sweet.  We had a private cremation and have her ashes in a cute urn with her collar and id around the neck of it.  I was ok with everything until i handed her body over to the vet, then i broke down.  The only other tears i shed were when i read the poem.

Thanks for your post Susan.

The grayish black one.
Right at the beginning of the video on the lower right part of the screen.
Bubba is a big Tabby with a white chest and gray and black body with "tiger stripes" and white paws.
I think he's about 8 years old but I don't know for certain as I got him at the pound.

I'm sorry to hear about Oscar.  People tend to come and go from our lives, but our pets stay with us forever.

winterlight -> RE: ForThose who have lost a pet - The Rainbow Bridge (9/17/2007 8:41:42 PM)

My condolences to the loss of Your pet. I have read Rainbow Bridge before but that was just exquisite to watch. Takes my breath away...

closes her eyes and bows her head..

SusanofO -> RE: ForThose who have lost a pet - The Rainbow Bridge (9/17/2007 9:09:29 PM)

A huge, sincere thank you (and hugs) to everyone for their kind words.

proudsub: I will do it, (but it might not be this week. *Mostly because I don't have a digital camera if you can believe that). I have to get my graphic designer friend to help me "convert" some pictures of Oscar for the website. But it is a wonderful, thoughtful idea. Thank you).  I am going to do it, and when I do, I will make sure you see it (or everyone here does, if they want).

michievousone: Yes, they do. Oscar was superb - a true champ. he was a good dog from day one. I definitely spoiled him, but he never acted like it.   I always promised him that in heaven there would be slow squirrels he could actually catch, hehe (maybe he is doing it).

winterlight: I like it a lot, even if it can make a person cry. I still can't believe, that of all of the renditions of "The rainbow Bridge" I could  have run across this morning, I picked that one (because I was not in a mood to "hunt" one down I liked. This was the first one I picked). And it had a Beagle in it!

RealOne: Thanks, I appreciate that.

Susan, I don't know about "cute" but my neighbor calls him "Handsome."
"He's a very handsome cat just like his owner."

SusanofO -> RE: ForThose who have lost a pet - The Rainbow Bridge (9/17/2007 9:14:55 PM)

Well I think everyone's pets are great looking. I bet his is Handsome, popeye.

Cat's are great!
They're independant, entertaining, and you don't have to take them out for a dump four times a day.
A real "Lazy Man's Pet!"
Around here with all the Home Owners' Association Signs that say "$100 Fine for Not Picking Up After Your Pet!" I just let Bubba out a few nights a week and he can crap wherever he likes.
"Try and catch him, heh, heh, heh!"
And, I don't have to buy 100 pound bags of catfood like the dog owners do.
It's funny when I'm out walking or riding my bike and see the dog owners chasing after their dogs with rubber gloves and pooper scoopers!
I said to one lady when she was picking up some Elephant droppings after her dog, "Hey lady, that's why I own a cat!"

Susan, I am so sorry for your loss.  As soon as I saw the title, I knew Oscar had gone.  I was reading the other thread, but I did not write.
Seeing the video of The Rainbow Bridge took Me back to last October 9th (almost a year already!)when I had to make the hard decision of letting My own beautiful Maggie go.  They gave Me a copy of that when I left the emergency animal hospital at 4:30 in the morning and I read it over and over.  It is still hard, and I still  miss her.  But is does get easier with time.  And shedding a few more tears today was probably good for Me.
Thank you for sharing.
Proudsub, thanks for that link.  I might just put together a memorial of My own.

SusanofO -> RE: ForThose who have lost a pet - The Rainbow Bridge (9/18/2007 12:18:33 PM)

GoddessDustyGold: I am sorry for your loss of Maggie. I am glad you found the video worthwhile. I am reconciling myself slowly to Oscar's passing. It was wonderful to get so much support here, and I really appreciated your comments. Thanks.

Susan,

I'm so sorry that your baby is gone, but he went knowing that you loved him, and you had the chance to say good-bye to him.  Time will make it easier for you to think of him and smile instead of cry, I can finally look at pictures of Shiloh, and I found his collar the other day....that hit me hard, I thought I had hidden it better than that.  But my rotten little Kittybrat was right there to comfort me......someday, you will be able to think of getting another baby, not to replace Oscar, but to fill the void he left behind.  It does help the healing process.

I do believe that one day, we will be reunited with all of our family, both two and four footed family.  I know I have some wonderful ones waiting for me, you have Oscar!

popeye1250 -> RE: ForThose who have lost a pet - The Rainbow Bridge (9/18/2007 12:57:34 PM)

Susan, I'm sure I'll be very sad when Bubba goes but I'd try to focus on all the happiness that Bubba gives people.
He's a very affectionate cat and rubs up against people when they come over to the house and loves to be patted.
One time a few years ago when I let him out he was gone for 6 days! I looked everywhere for him! I even went to the pound.
Then, 6 days later I was sitting here at the computer and I heard him meowing outside the back door!
So, just think of all the happiness and good times you had with Oscar. I can almost garauntee that everytime you think about him you'll smile!

soultoshare -> RE: ForThose who have lost a pet - The Rainbow Bridge (9/18/2007 1:00:04 PM)

BTW, popeye...what did you end up naming your other little kitty?
