I'm sure it would show up on the Drudge Report, and eevryone would just yawn, Hmm, that sounds kind of good right now. Pardon me... <YAWN>.

Probably would keep it quiet.  What would be gained in causing a panic?  That would seem to increase the chances of a total extinction.  Wasn't it just a few years ago that a near miss came flying in out of nowhere and was detected just a few hours before it would have hit us.  In an event like that the hordes of people flooding the rural areas would lower the surival chances of humanity in general, and cause a lot of un productive/pointless suffering.  You should have food, water, medical /suvirval stuff in your home, and stay there if you can, every part of the world can get hit with a massive disaster with virtually no warning.  It should always be in the back of our minds.  If they saw it 10 years in advance and there are fortunes to be made fixing the problem, you bet they would tell right away.

Lucky Dog, I agree with you there.
I was watching a program on the History Channel about space and an Astronomer who tracks asteroids said; "it's the ones that we *don't* know about that worry me."

I think they'd be more likely to threaten us all with either a completely bogus or a grossly overstated asteroid threat in order to sew fear and desparation in our minds and weaken our spirits so they can better control us... oh wait... don't need that, we have tr-rrists.

In case of an event that could cause the extinction of Human Nature (like an asteroid or something like that ).Do you believe the government would give you a warning or would they be to concerned about a major panic and keep it quite?

I somehow doubt that, in the days before such a disaster, that the "government" would maintain its form.  After all, if someone leaks, who cares?  Not like being out of the job's going to matter in a couple of days.  Who would work a couple of days before the end of the world anyhow?
