There is a song by Procol Harum that never fails to get my attention. It's called Pilgrim's Progress and I have known it well for more than 30 years. When I was a young guy, I loved it because....well, the words are just so damned interesting...it tells a great story. When I hear it now, I still love it...more, even...but it gives rise to feelings I couldn't have known when I was in my teens and early 20s. I see myself in the words. Didn't set out to make that happen...it has just worked out that way.

Does this make any kind of sense to ANYone? Are there any songs that speak to you in a particularly singular way?

You'd be hard pressed NOT to find someone who didn't have attachment to a song.

Music and song are basic elements of humanity, there's a lot of power and energy in it. All of my partners are musically inclined and talented in some way, it needs to be a part of my daily life.

Oh Rat! Music Heals, Inspires, and Motivates me. So many songs have spoken thru the years I'd not know where to start in listing them. To pick just *one* I'd find myself hard pressed.

There are loads for me - I would go further and say that I have a fetish.
I can orgasm to certain songs or lyrics alone without any other stimuli.

My memories are set to music. A song or album will conjure up a day or a year in my mind, so clear it's as if I'd lived it yesterday.

Right now I'm living to Leonard Cohen and Damien Rice, with Counting Crows for variety.

There are several pieces of music that "speak" to me.

Beethoven's 9th Symphony - Beethoven wrote that symphony when he was totally deaf. In fact, when he conducted its first performance at the end they had to turn Beethoven around to see the audience applauding. Every time I hear that music I am in awe of the genius that wrote it.

Supper's Ready by Genesis - Circa 1972 progressive rock band Genesis fronted by Peter Gabriel brought this epic to life. It tells of a struggle between good and evil. Fantastic lyrics and passionate music.

Tommy The Cat by Primus - I am a bass player so hearing Les Claypool play that bass gives me shivers.

School Days by Stanley Clarke - Again it is a bass thing but Stanley is the man.

Echoes by Pink Floyd - Floyd wrote a lot of great music but I believe that Echoes is one of their finest works. It gives me chills when I hear it.

Anything by Enya - Her music is hauntingly familiar even when I hear her new stuff. There is something earthy and almost spiritual about it.

Take Me Home by Phil Collins - Phil might be the most overplayed artist ever but his music speaks to me on a deeply personal level.

I'm Still Standing by Elton John - My anthem. It strikes a chord with me because I have survived many a harrowing battle in my life and I always seem to land on my feet.

Come Talk To Me by Peter Gabriel - This came out a little before my marriage broke up and it has dual significance to me. One was my desire to work things out with my wife and the other was my deep and terrible concern regarding how this would affect my two boys. It was something that I told my boys to do if they ever needed to talk.

I am sure I could write about many more songs that touch me but those are the top ones that I can think of.
