i was just going to post about this but i wanted to check and see if anyone else had first. i cannot express how much rigney's wheel of time series has touched my life. i have learned so much about myself and about writing from his books. if it were not for his series, i would not have met the wonderful people i have through the online wheel of time communities. i would not have learned so much about leadership and friendship through being a part of those communities. i would never have met my former master, and i would not be the slave i am today because of that. the following was posted on his blog by his cousin: quote:
It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God’s timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba. Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her. Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We’ve all felt the love that you’ve been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support. Jason will be posting funeral arrangements. My sincerest thanks. Peace and Light be with each of you, Wilson Brother/Cousin 4th of 3 To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn’t. I haven’t. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn’t exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God’s name. i know a lot of people here probably did not know him or know of him. he's most famous for the wheel of time series, but also wrote some conan the barbarian books and one or two other series, and was an accomplished dance and theatre critic as well. he touched thousands of people's lives and truly made his readership feel like a family. he was diagnosed with cardiac amyloidosis last year and wrote a very touching message in which he said, although his median life expectancy was four years, that he planned to continue writing for the next thirty years; that he would write until they nailed his coffin shut. the wheel of time series, his best-known work, will be completed, most likely by his wife harriet, who was also heavily involved in his writing process. may the light shine on him, and the creator shelter him, and the last embrace of the mother welcome him home. more information about his life and work, and the donations and memorial projects to be done in his name: http://www.dragonmount.com/ (overrun with hits right now so his blog may not be accessible) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Jordan http://www.tarvalon.net/news.asp?article=502 http://tarvalonforums.net/forums/viewforum...f977ee73aaee84a
