Ever have one of those days when "stuff" other people do simply annoys the hell out of you. You know, those pet peeves that make you just wanna walk up to them and slap the crap out of them (in a bad way), but you restrain yourself and just grumble and go on.

Like the lazy (fill in your favorite descriptive word here) that will not put the damned shopping carts in the corral thing at Walmart, even if they are parked right next to it.

Or the happy shopper who writes a $10 check at the checkout making everyone in line wait...gezzz, get a bigger allowance or a debit card.

How about the idiot who get's on the Interstate at a crawling 35 MPH making you spend more time watching to see if they are going to stop in front of you, then paying attention to merging like you should (which is tough when you are going 35 mph slower than the traffic)..only to then blow by you at 85 mph a mile down the road.

OK...I guess a vent post...but now I feel better. Wanna add?

When you can learn to let go of all those things and realize you're in control of your own reaction and emotion, your day goes a lot smoother.

Getting irritated or impatient will have no impact on the outcome. The person will go along their merry way and not be affected at all. You, meanwhile, waste energy and emotion on useless frustration.

If you practice, you can overcome it. Ironically, a lot of people into controlling others are also impatient with things they can't control.

Oh come now AAkasha, can you really say that you never have days when the stupidity of the general public just gives you a rash?

Scooter,
I can relate. I just hate it when people hit the brakes BEFORE they get in the turn lane. Or when they cut in front of you just to make a left hand turn a half a block up. I hate it when the bagger at the grocery store puts the canned good ON TOP of the bread. OMG I could go on ALL day.

I'm one of those that will stand and watch the bagger at the store while they bag my groceries... never... and I mean NEVER put meat in with my dry goods... my rule is, if it bleeds, put it in a separate bag.

And yes, those people that park tooooooo close to the car next to them... as in several inches over the line... I once left a note for one person that did that to me... it said "I hope you don't fuck like you park... you'd never get it it"

Commercials......... Thank God for the mute button... lol

And I absolutely, possitively HATE getting emails asking me if I want to enlarge my penis!!!!

lmao... how carthartic that was... giggles

Or how about when there's bumper to bumper traffic & then all of a sudden it looks like a UFO just vacuumed all the cars away because they're no longer there. That drives me up the wall.

When that fails, there's shopping, comedy or Remy Martin, lol.. M

OMG! At first I used to get a little offended thinking how did someone come to believe I'm a man? Have I been on too many porn sites, and their tracking me?
Now, I just think, nah I bought all the sizes I like. M

It's impossible to not have a knee jerk reaction, of course. But beyond that, it's just useless. And most of these knee jerk reactions are uncalled for if you look at the big picture.

Ever heard the saying, "I had no shoes and complained. And then I met a man with no feet."

You can complain about the traffic, about someone slow in line in front of you, about people frustrating you because they don't do things the way you think or behave in the manner you think you deserve. Stop for a moment and think about what you have and what others don't. Then, also, consider that every time in your life you get irritated at someone for doing something that you believe wronged you -- in a pet peeve way -- probably a great many of those times you were wrong yourself, or you have done worse to someone else and didn't even know it.

Another way to get over it is to practice random acts of kindness. Let the little old lady behind you in line go in front of you. Move the shopping cart yourself, and then move the one next to the car beside yours also. When the person who was incredibly slow in front of you turns and apologize, smile genuinely and say it's no problem at all -- and mean it -- you probably made their day.

Golfers who can't keep up with the group in front of them drives us crazy. Yesterday the group in front of us was 2 holes behind the next group, added almost an hour to our round.

Golfers who talk in the middle of my swing or putt.

Golfers who step all over my putt line.

Golfers who don't repair divots, ball marks and rake sand traps.

Golfers who don't yell "fore" when their ball almost hits us.

I agree with AAkasha. It's better to learn to deal with life's annoyances. They will never go away, so letting them get to me just sets me up for more frustration. It's always something...if it's not a checkwriter at the market (geez, is that really so bad?), it will be someone with coupons for products they didn't buy or maybe someone who doesn't enter their PIN fast enough for me. The trick is to breathe deep and just cruise on it. Ranting for fun is good, though.

As a member of the general public, I wonder what kinds of things I myself do to annoy others. Am I in someone's rant in some thread on a forum somewhere?

*toodles off, no doubt getting in someone's way*

*smiles* See? I knew there was SOMEthing!

Well, I'm off...gotta go to the store. I'm gonna get into the express lane with slightly more than 12 items in my cart. Then I'm gonna drive home at exactly the speed limit. God, I am SUCH a sicko!

People who use the word "subby"

People who don't know the difference between "dominant" and "dominate" and yet claim to have years of experience as a "dominate."

I work in retail so I have many pet peeves that go along with that.

1) People that don't pay attention to the prices while they are shopping and then ask what the price of every item is when they walk up to the register.

2) People, again, do not look at prices and then don't have enough money at the end. There is tax on non-food item folks and it is added on when the items are rung up.

3) Every aisle has huge numbers and a description of what is in it hanging above it. Where is the soap you ask? Try the aisle that says "soap" above it.

4) People that assume that I have nothing better to do then clean up after them. If you are shopping and you decide that you don't want something and you don't bring it back to where is belongs as least bring it to the register and give it to the cashier. That way we don't find it when we are trying to close.

and about closing.....

5) People that try to walk in when we are trying to get everyone out so that we can close. I mean come on, we open at 7 and we are open until 10, you can't tell me you don't have some time in that time period to stop in.

I could go on and on, but I have to go to the laundramat this morning

Actually I am very well aware of the saying and the concept of "There but for the grace of God go I". When I was 26 years old I was lying in my hospital bed, the same one I had been lying in for nearly a year, when 7 doctors came into my room and told me that they thought it would be best for me to get my affairs in order for it had become clear that I was not going to "make it". Well not only did I prove them to be totally wrong, I walked out of that hospital with a renewed sense of just exactly how precious every single moment of life is. I have been reminded several times over since as I have faced death in one manner or another, and each and every time I have walked away from it I have come away with a deeper understanding of just exactly how important the little things are.

I take the time to smell the roses, delight in the smile of a child, have my heart warmed by the gentle touch of an elderly person's hand in mine....oh my the list could go on and on.

quote:

Stop for a moment and think about what you have and what others don't.

I don't have a lot, at least not in the eyes of most people, but I thank God every moment of every day for what I do have....and despite how others may view what I have, I feel truly blessed.

quote:

Another way to get over it is to practice random acts of kindness.

Actually I practice random acts of kindness on a very regular basis. I love to see the reaction on someone's face when they receive something positive from someone they don't know and expect nothing from. I go out of my way to make people's days...whether it be through a physical act or gesture or a compliment.

You see Aakasha, Scooter's post was intended to be light-hearted and humorous. A fun way to get rid of those little annoyances that we ALL have....even you or you would not have seen fit to respond to this post in the manner you have. If His posting here is the way that he deals with the frustrations of everyday life, then I would say that is a fairly healthy expression. While I take more time than most people to appreciate the little things that life has to offer...even I have not yet reached "Perfect Being" status to the point that NOTHING ever irritates me.

Thank you siamsa....

I used to work retail... what I wanted more then anything was to show up at the work places of some of those inconsiderate people and make it impossible for them to go home after they have put in their eight hours as well....!!

I second what Siamasa said and want to add

People who seem to think that "we're sold out" means "I don't WANT to sell you any" not "i don't have any to sell."

People who think I'm an idiot because I work retail or talk loudly to their children about how they should go to college so they never have to have a "pathetic job like that girll."
