farglebargle -> Why don't Republicans in Ohio want the voting machines tested??? (9/18/2007 6:03:41 PM)

Is it because California's Secretary of State already tested them, and found EVERY ONE OF THEM to be a complete joke???

Congrats, Ohio voters.

YOUR VOTE MEANS NOTHING!

deadbluebird -> RE: Why don't Republicans in Ohio want the voting machines tested??? (9/18/2007 6:25:41 PM)

not nothing.

Level -> RE: Why don't Republicans in Ohio want the voting machines tested??? (9/18/2007 6:44:41 PM)

I'd like to see all of the machines canned. Use paper and pen. No chads, no machines, no electoral college.

Oh, and if the count is at all dubious [a la that 'hanging chads' circus],
freaking HOLD THE ELECTION OVER!!!   Frag the "Cost"!

POTUS... Yeah, It's That Important [ or once was / oughta be ]

I would also like to see our ballots have that one extra choice ~

"NONE OF THE ABOVE"
~~~
Electoral College has No [decent] Excuse to Exist nemore.
Serves the Powers the Be [Who Intend to Stay thet-away]
Owner59 -> RE: Why don't Republicans in Ohio want the voting machines tested??? (9/18/2007 6:59:54 PM)
cuz they cheat, ...duhhh.
I wouldn't object to a "none of the above" option. Not sure about holding the election over, but you're right, it's incredibly important.
Absolutely, when they tried to count and recount the chads, in perpetuity, until they got a result they wanted, it was sad.
Well let's see, the machines were mostly made by Diebold which is run by a staunch Republican supporter who, before the last Presidential election, promised to "deliver" Ohio to the Republicans and then left a back door in the machines (which have no paper backup) for Karl Rove to supposedly "monitor" the vote count. Think that might have something to do with it?
(Don't forget that all day long in that election exit polls had Kerry leading in Ohio by a big margin, it wasn't until the polls closed and Rove went into a closed room with a computer to "see how we are doing" that he emerged a while later and announced that they had won in Ohio. Minutes later that was reported on Fox news. (Which just happens to be run by a cousin of Bush.)
exit polls taken durring the day are meaningless, people vote at different times.  There is a large block of people who work durring the day, that vote in the afternoon /evening.  Also exit polls only count those who vote at the precient on the day of voting, it ignores all the absentee ballots.  Which there has been an increase in the use of over the past 3 cycles.  Fox news is run by a cousin of Bushes?
Any form of voting these days can be manipulated. What difference does it make which one it is?
Yeah, but the machines have been PROVEN to be laughably insecure, in testing by the State of California.
The machines were rigged. The exit polls were correct.
Just like the exit polls were correct in Nevada, which has HONEST voting machines. ( Overseen by the State Gaming Commission, at that... )
farglebargle -> RE: Why don't Republicans in Ohio want the voting machines tested??? (9/18/2007 8:01:44 PM)
OCR/ Mark/Sense with a lockbox for holding ballots AFTER verified correct by the Voter.
Polls close, crack the lockbox open, and COUNT the votes. Compare against electronic totals to verify proper operation of the machines. Report counts to the board of elections. Seal lockbox and paper ballots for later challenges.
Can it be gamed?
YES. But it's also the least likely to be gamed, as the entire process of counting votes is open and transparent.
Just like the group of Princeton computer majors that was able to crack every brand of voting machine they got their hands on. That was all over NPR about a year ago.
According to RFK Jr., the diebold machines are set up to deliver a result based within a certain percentage range to a specific candidate.
So the Republican candidate wins by 3-5% points in every state using Diebold.
Do the math.
If republicans thought they could win fair and square,they wouldn`t be resisting this.
What`s the big deal? Why can`t the machines be checked?What are they hiding?
