Hi everyone,

I'm looking for fireplay torches.  I've done the google thing, and have found directions on how to make said torches, but no luck finding a site to buy them.  Can anyone help me out if they know any of the more esoteric websites that I can buy fireplay torches off of? I'm too lazy to make 'em :)

fireplay torches? like fireplay wands that you dip in alcohol? that take $1.50 and 5 minutes to make?  no, i have never heard of a place to buy them...because i have never heard of anyone so lazy as to not be able to invest 5 minutes of their time into lighting their bottom on fire...maybe 30 minutes total plus travel if you include shopping, leaving time for not being able to find what you need at one store...

Excuse me, then.  I work alot, and just would prefer the convenience.  I've seen them at big events before to buy; like when my submissive & I went to Floating World. Hence  me asking if anyone knew someplace online I may have missed.

Allow me to clarify a few things here.  I had asked my submissive to go onto the forums and make a post looking for the torches.  I didn't know that she went onto MY collarme account, to make this post, but that's really besides the point.  I would first like to say that your criticism is completely unconstructive, and quite frankly, in bad taste.  Please refrain from making rude comments.  If you can make torches for $1.50, that's fantastic.  You can probably sell them for about $22.50...  Or, you could share this knowledge with the class so everyone can make torches for $1.50.  However, making snarky comments from the sidelines doesn't help.  It just makes you look like a jackass.

There are two factors that are keeping me from building the torches myself:
1) There are no local stores that I have found (and I've looked over the years), that sell kevlar wicking.  I refuse to use cotton, because I feel that it is not as sturdy as kevlar.  OK, so I could buy it online... but that wouldn't cost me much less than if I had bought the torch already made.  So what's the point?
2) The quality of workmanship that I could put into making a torch is considerably less than that of someone who has a workshop, and this is what they do for a living.  I saw those torches on the site that Alumbrado posted a link to.  Those were quite nice.  I can't build anything with that kind of craftsmanship.  And I was raised that if you're going to do something, you might as well do it right.  Therefore, I would prefer to buy them.

So thank you Alumbrado, that site will do nicely.  Chellekitty, kindly keep your rude comments to yourself.

Sir Michael

You are welcome, but ease up on chellekitty, she is really a lovely person, it was just her day for New Poster Snark Patrol duty.

I believe my turn comes up next week.

you know those gloves they sell that allow you to reach into ovens and grills....they are great for making fire play torches, and if i remember correctly they are kevlar

edited to add: its the "ove glove"  and it is made of kevlar...one will make 2 or 3 torches... a pair will therefore make 4 to 6...the technique is not that difficult...i recomend getting a large stiff spring from home depot or lowes...

1) cut out a 3" diameter circle (guestimate...doesn't need to be real big....) of the ove glove material
2) make a circle with your thumb and create a pouch to stuff cotton balls into it...
3) start stuffing and stuff until you can stuff no more, then stuff some more, you can always stuff more, hold it closed squeeze from the outside and stuff more into it...
4) once you really do get it full, stick the handle (metal won't burn or melt, you can plasti-dip or leather wrap the handle end for comfort) into the cotton balls then close the ove glove material over it
5) wrap a thin but sturdy wire around the base multiple times, making sure there is no cotton peeking out, if there is, trim it off or light it outside to burn it off before using it...

before using it in play, be sure to soak it thuroughly in the alcohol so that the cotton does not dry up and put off icky fumes...

further edited to add: i realize that i was snarky in my initial approach but if it had been asked "really, well how do you make them for 1.50" i would have responded with how in my 2nd post....and maybe i exagerated on the price because we just cut up our ove gloves we had laying around....but thats still only $5 a piece by my calculations....on the high end of things....
