SadistDave -> Subliminal Messages (7/19/2005 1:54:18 AM)

I've often wondered about the validity of subliminal messages. So this morning, I have been looking into some of the messages in advertising and music, and ran across this little gem. Its a flash site that shows two adverts and a very creepy case of backward masking. You have to turn the sound up a bit to make it out. Not much, just enough to hear the message clearly.

I watched the thing a few times, and for some reason the effect is even more disturbing if you read the words while the songs backward mask is being played. It's difficult, but try to pace your reading to the words as they are being spoken. If you really want to get the full effect though, it's possible to make the damn thing play full screen on your computer. Creepy stuff guys-n-dolls, creepy stuff...!

Subliminal messages don't really work, at least not in the sense that most people think they do.

People can and are influenced by a million things, mostly things they aren't aware of. For people who BECOME aware of them, and learn how to use them...they can become quite influential.

It's not subliminal messages, it's just being aware of your surroundings a bit more than anyone else.

This is a post I wrote from another thread...

The subject of (sex) subliminal messages is one that is (sex) rather controversial. The purpose of subliminal (sex) messages is to plant a thought into (sex) the mind of the reader or (sex) listener. There are (sex) of course, different ways to do (sex) this. Backward masking tracks in (sex) recordings being one (sex) way. If you want more information (sex) on subliminal (sex) suggestion and how it bombards (sex) our everyday lives, I would recommend (sex) searching on Google under (sex) subliminal messages. I (sex) actually think that it is a (sex) scam, but I could (sex) be wrong.

probably funny if you haven't lived with things like that happening on their own the majority of your life.

I should have known better...

Also be careful when clicking that link. A pop up requesting I download something jumped up before the page had even loaded.

Yes do be careful, I received a message saying it was infected. Thank goodness for computer virus protection.

They are very real. I've even taken classes on them in the past. I'm not going to
the site because well someone said it triggered virus protection on their pc.

Why be subliminal when just saying the point works more effectivly. The radio has played certain songs so many damn times , I've acctually started to like some of them.

Is there really anything subliminal in the songs "Candy Shop" "Puff The Magic Dragon" "Cop Killer" and "Good Bye"

I remember dateing one bimbo who really thought that the REM song "Loosing My Religion" was about loosing religion and not about expressing your feelings for someone that you're in love with.

Anyways, if you really want some secret in your song there should be a code for certain ppl to know thus giving the message a double meaning. But as for your audience, telling them what you want to do rarther than leave whispers and such will be more effective.
