Aneirin -> What computer........? (9/20/2007 3:01:18 AM)
And so I will ask you folks here, I need a 'modern' computer. I have a budget of about £400, and would like a laptop suitable for mostly photographic work. Can I ask,what would folks here recommend as to the specification I should seek and make if applicable etc?
Aneirin.

you can check out Dell, Toshiba, HP and others. Most companies have laptops in your range. What you want to look for is upgradeability. I suggest minimul of 2G Ram and a hard drive that spins at 7200 RPM for seamless moving of files ( without glitches) Your nexst largest expense will be your processing program......Photo Shop??? Many come with 'photo' programs but they are limited in function so be aware of that as well.

My apologies for my ignorance in not understanding the currency but in my experience (and I buy 100's of PC a year for different purposes) The Dell XPS series desktops are the best bang for your buck and they start for around 1000 USD.

I think you'll have to remember to have your files on a CD or have another add on Drive to hold the images. Images take up lots of room. And for 400 dollars, you may not get the size storage needed. I cant say. I use photo shop and Quark publishing software. You can get older copies at a resonable price on line. I was suprised how fast I filled my machine up with artwork.

Second thought. I have no idea what Mac's cost, I don't use them. but they are highly regarded for multimedia and artistic purposes.

When it comes to REAL media production work, there is NO SUBSTITUTE FOR AN APPLE.
