If one has to demand an apology to get an apology...is it really an apology?

We'll never know if you keep ignoring my demands for one...

Seriously, sometimes people aren't aware of their transgression, or of the effect on the other party.

I tend to dislike being apologized to.  So I dont demand people apologize to me.  If people do
apologize to me I will accept it and never bring it up again.

If asked, I simply point out to people that they should avoid doing things they would be ashamed of doing.

In the case where a person does something, apologizes for it, and does it again, I tend to think
the apology was somewhat insincere.

I'll never demand an apology.  If it hasn't occured to the other party that they  made an error.. then what's the point?

(this is just a passing thought I had this moring)

I judge apologies on the sincerity so if a person demands an apology it can be sincere and therefore an apology but the odds of it being sincere decrease dramatically if it is given because of a demand.

I agree with toservez,

The sincerity of apology is not necesarily mitigated by the fact that it was demanded, but the fact that an apology was demanded reduces the likelihood that it was given sincerely.

My absolute pet peeve is if someone has been ORDERED to apologize to me. Sheesh. The chances of such a thing being meant sincerely are pretty small, and it just causes me to have a big EWWWW!!! feeling.....it just feels so wrong to hear those insincere words.
