When I left Wisconsin I missed the brats...Things shutting down for a packer's game and the fat chicks....If I left Chicago I would miss the people, the skyline the restaurants, the night life, the lakefront...The fattening food and of course the fat chicks....Although there is a lot of primo tail running around in this fine city.

When I leave the high desert, somewhere down the road,
I will miss:

The huge horizon and the sunsets that drape across it
350 sunny days a year
Disneyland as a day trip
The two weeks in March when it's actually pretty here
Grilling in February wearing shorts sleeves.

Moved from NY to Florida almost 11 years ago. I still miss the pizza. But even more...WHITE CASTLE!!!! Anytime I fly into JFK, the first stop once I get the rental car is White Castle in Bayside, Queens.
I used to love to ski. I haven't done it since I left NY. I do miss that.
And last but certainly not least... "Spring thaw" in Manhattan. When the weather first starts to warm up and the women dress accordingly. The shorter skirts start to come out and the long coats and slacks are left at home. It's a wonderful time.
Of course, this is best observed while eating a couple of slices of NY pizza!

I moved from NY to Michigan. I miss REAL pizza, REAL Italian food, Yankee Doodles and Devil Dogs, black&white cookies, Egg Creams, Taylor Ham, good hot dogs, Wise potato chips, cream soda, good cold cuts, knishes, Italian ices, aged beef, bagels, good rye bread, bakeries and delicatessens, crumb cakes, blackout cake, fresh flounder and seafood....OMG, I could go on and on....and now I'm starving!

When I am not in Geogia I miss the deep family roots and rich Southern culture and heritage that make me who I am and that so few from outside the South have a clue about.  I miss the brisk fall.  I miss thunder and lighting storms. I miss the dogwood in the spring.  And I miss the sound of the crickets and frogs singing at night - oh my heart aches for that song. I miss pecans and fox grapes from the homestead.  I miss the lush greeness.

When I am not in SanFrancisco I miss the salt and pepper calimari and the smile of Timmy the chef at YuetLee, I miss my friends the family I choose versus the one i was born into.  I miss the wild critters brushing right up against the urban life.  I miss the the golden light of the city that is reflected off of the bay.  I miss Good Vibrations, Romantasy, Madame S, the Folsom Street Fest, the amazing restaurants and farmers markets....I miss Mt Tam and the back roads. I miss the patch of road up in the red woods  just before you reach Olema - when the needles completely carpet the twisting road.  I miss china town and the coffee in northbeach and the little clubs that have incredible live jazz every nite.

I have lived away from here a few times in my life.

I miss being near the ocean.  I would miss my view of the harbor.

I miss the racial and social diversity.  I miss being able to have a conversation with somebody that is not laced with paranoid terrors at whatever evil empire is on that person's mind, be that whites, blacks, gays, women, commies, muslims, mexicans, Canadians, Republicans, Democrats, O J Simpson, whatever.

Having said all that, there are parts of my personality that are done with southern California.  If it was not for my job as a mock assailant, I would probably be heading to the Pacific Northwest to work in Portland or Seattle harbor when I get elevated to Class A longshoreman.

Oh, sounds awesome!  You'll find the WaWa's in central to southern NJ, and parts of Maryland, Delaware and Northern Virginia (that I know of).  If you're not planning on hitting Philadelphia (although the cheesesteaks there are the best!), take the Garden State Parkway south to the tip of NJ, Cape May, and take the ferry over to Lewes, DE.  Last time I rode it, we saw some dolphins!  You can pick up Rt. 50 and head on into Washington DC, or back up to Baltimore on 95!

Have a great trip!

Ooooh thanks!  Thank you thank you thank you!!!

I can't wait to taste the cultural foods of all the places I'm going.  Crab cakes in Baltimore, Cheesesteaks in Philly, Chowder in Bostin, Lobster in Maine, Grits in the South (I've never had grits).  Master wants me to eat Scrod in Boston.  I don't know what the hell Scrod is - it sounds scary, but it looks like I'll be eating some!!

And now I'll add WaWa's to the list!

Scrod is just a white fish, also called cod.  (Hence, Cape Cod, lol).  It isn't really anything "special" like shark or swordfish, but it's really good fish, especially when it's fresh.

When you're around the Maryland shore, you have to have some blueclaw crabs, they're the best!
