In my book, the only difference between a slave and a submissive is what their owner calls them.

That is an excellent thought, Aquatic!  Because with everyones differnt opinions and views, the only thing that really matters is that the Owner and sub or slave agree.  Very well put!

There is a difference, I have some of each at times, and still do. But I lump the two together in advertising for customers or playmates, eg as office girls here, because I want either, and also because some I would consider better as slaves define themselves as submissives and vice-versa.

So wo really cares, except in relation to the ones with whom you are directly involved.

Yes, they are both deluded-one more than the other.

Where's the mod?  This topic has been covered more times than a five dollar prostitute.

Do you follow me?  Your slave could be MY submissive...or vice verse.  These 'definitions' are not writ in stone.  What is a 'cloudy day'?  What is the difference in a bud and a flower?  When is one grown up...really?    It's a word game for philosophers.

I would agree with this.  I'm a submissive who is my Masters slave.  Just recently someone told me they didn't care what my Master said, i didn't have the mentality of a slave.   Hmmm.   So again, every one has their own definition.

The only thing i am going to add because it's something i have been thinking about recently is .....

I think there is a difference between a person who submits and a submissive person.  One no better than the other, of course.  Just different.

Seems like this debate will go on into infinity, but then, we all have our definitions as to what a submissive and a slave are. *sigh*

My slave and I were just talking about this subject the other night so to read your post is a little ironic. When we met she was a submissive and threw the years we have ben together she has become my slave. She will always have her safe word and she will always be loved beyond a shadow of a doubt. To everyone the two words mean something different. I personally take the word slave in its literal sense. A slave is a person who has no choice but to do what they are told or they will be punished in one fashion or another. A slave is property and can be given away or sold. I personally cherish my slave and would never sell her or give her away or let another person harm her in any way. We have also ben together long enough ans she trusts me enough to not have to use her safe word. But it is there none the less and it is there for her safety. So with all of this said is she really a slave to me or is she a extreme submissive ?

For Me slaves are subs that have fully submitted to their Masters. For a much longer explanation, including the role Love plays, see my other post on the subject: Falling In Love.

I'm a cherished submissive, I have given over control of damned near everything including the areas I swore I wouldn't. But I'm not a slave because to me the word slave evokes the contentration camps. For the same reason I don't do body modifications. The fact that slave as we use it includes consent doesn't change my visceral response to the term. It isn't going to be applied to me because it's not a healthy term to be applied to me.

Obviously, younger s types who never lost family in WWII won't have that kind of emotional trigger and can use it freely. I'm not them and I don't. But it doesn't change the relationship between us.

A Submissive and a Slave? For my experience I have found a great deal of differance between them. But yet I still see people catogorising them together sub/slave. What do you all think?

I find the only consistent difference is the number of letters.
