piratefish -> a question about corsets (7/19/2005 5:36:54 PM)

I am curious about the shaping properties of corsets While I have heard that wearing them progressively tighter can cause a sculpting effect to the waist, I am not sure I believe it, or how effective it is. If A/anyone has any input, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes, you can modify your body by using corsets. *HOWEVER* you have to 1) tightlace 2) wear it for prolonged periods of time 3)wear the proper type of corset (heavily boned and made for tightlacing). Most tightlacers I know do it for the better part of the day (20+ hours)

I have several aquaintences who are long-term tightlacers. All agree that while they can get amazing reductions in a corset, their bodies generally resume their "normal" shapes when uncorseted.

They notice some changes, but they've told me that over time, if they cease corseting, they go back to normal measurments.

I know that the more I lace, the tighter I can go, but I don't think that's the kind of sculpting you're talking about.

I agree. . .for the most part the results are for as long as you are tightlacing. There are some exceptions to the rule such as Kathy Jung> I have a book witha picture of her ribs and they have permanently "deformed" to accomodate her tightlacing.

Thanks E/everyone. If I do get into it, that wont be for quite a while yet and may be for reasons other than tightlacing, but I do appreciate all the input.

You are welcome and you are right - there are very good reasons to wear corsets besides semi-permanent waist reduction. Corsets can look really sexy - they are nice fashion accessories (if you get an overbust model you can wear it as a top) and they do help define those delicious curves that women are blessed with.

And that is why I want some ... I already have the designs/colors picked out, I just have to get the $ for them (or find a boy who doesn't mind spending way too much money on me LOL)

Actually, corset training is effective in changing the body's shape, because over time it pressures the internal organs and the floating ribs to move up and adjust and shift...This is why it has to be done for long periods and works slowly and is not likely to have a permanent effect unless the corset wearing persists.

(By the way, pregnancy does the same thing...the internal organs and ribs adjust to make room for the fetus as it grows. It's probably why we have floating ribs in the first place.)

I'm sure it must have some health risks, although fans of it would say they aren't taking any greater risks than those into plastic surgery.

Do searches on body modification and corset training and you'll find endless info.
