Okay, so I'm off to pick up a tube of Special Effects "electric blue" hair dye soon to have a bit of fun coloring my down-there hair. Has anyone ever done this before or knows someone who has? I've heard of people having bad reactions to the stuff (which is why you do a patch test). BTW I also found this wonderful hair lightener that I already used, so I don't really have to worry about the color not showing up. But it's a lot different than the dye, thicker like a paste... any info would be most welcome
thanks,
~fp

You will definately need to lighten the hair before adding colors such as blue, pink, green... etc.

Pubic hair is course, much like beard hair on men, thus the reason for color brands such as "Just for Men, Beards" & such.

Stripping the natural color will help the color show better & also make it last longer.

The thick paste you are describing I believe is the bleach mixture. The only concern is that you DO NOT want to get this on any delicate skin surfaces & you also do not want to leave it on too long. In this case, it would be much better to deal with roots rather than burns.

As to products... definately check with a beauty supply store. They have many modern colors. Use a volume 10 developer (sometimes 20) for adding color. As to removing color, they also have plenty of bleaching kits at most major stores now.

Hello fp2012,
You might want to try a Kool-Aid hair dye.
You just mix it up like a paste and put it on,
I don't know how long to wait because I have just
been told about this, not done it myself.
But this way you have no nasty chemicals, lots
of colors and it isn't permenant.

Good Luck and Have Fun!!!

I imagine this would stain the skin pretty bad for at least a little while, lol, you'd resemble a nude smurf

Exactly what she said. Try to stay away from the delicate membrames or you're going to have one huge burn.

Special Effects hair color contains no nasty chemicals, has more colors than Kool-Aid has flavors, conditions as it colors and you don't have to dicker around with mixing anything up. It's great stuff and vegan friendly!

All of the products mentioned (even the kool-aid LOL) will have various degrees of success.

Keep in mind that the manufacturers of hair dyes did not have pubic hair in mind when developing the formula... the results will not be the same as the hair on the head.

Thanks everyone. This is all really great advice! I'd never even heard of the kool-aid stuff, I'll have to look into that. The pre-lightening is working rather well, so I doubt I'll have much trouble with the color... I guess I'm a bit concerned that it will turn out more green than blue (which really isn't that bad, cuz I like green just as much). The hair is a blonde/yellow color and with the added blue I'm afraid it will go more green.
Anyway, keep up with the info. I'll be sharing it with my Master, as he has deemed himself Portland's #1 pubic stylist lol.
Thanks again
