Imagine a large City using the acronym SLUT (South Lake Union Trolley) as a way to get folks to ride a trolley! (I LOVE my city).  Mayor Nichols has said "I don't care what people call it, as long as they ride it".  I am ordering 4 of these t-shirts for my team at work before the conservatives have it pulled for being offensive.  (Of course mine will be red... funny how the other three want basic blue and black colors).. God i love living here!

hmmm - i wonder if Chicago's Transit Authority (CTA) would ever consider changing their name to CUNT to up the ridership  *giggles*

This is a clever marketing ploy perhaps? No one would make such an unintentional mistake they knew what it meant don’t you feel?

In the movie Fight Club, the taxi cab company was the Southern Chicago Area Transit.

SCAT.

It is all good.

Absolutely it's a marketing ploy...one i rather like! ;)  It is also a 'fad' and will pass quickly enough.  However, now that someone has broken through that particular barrier... who knows what's next! [;)]

Courses back in college get some neat acronyms.

My first year, in the introductory seminar introducing students to the college, the speaker loudly announced, "Being Freshmen, it will be your duty to choose your first STD this coming weekend."

We were later informed that "STD" courses were "STudent Developement".

So I send off for my own Ride the SLUT t-shirt.  Get an email back, two guys selling from a box in their garage have been deluged by orders from all over the world, and will get my shirt to me in 1-2 months.

In Ireland men will say about a woman; "I bet she's a good ride."
Or if a woman is known to be of easy virtue; "There goes the town bike."

The St. Louis police dept. had an anti drug/gang unit called the Street Cornor Apprehention Team or S.C.A.T.

I really want someone in the LA PD to make a squad called Anti- Narcotics Customs Enforcement, or some such.

Raechard -> RE: Ride the SLUT :) (9/22/2007 9:19:12 AM)

I wouldn’t ride anything called a trolley they could have called it a tram.

Hubby and i laughed so hard when we heard that on the news.  It's almost good enough to make us ride it.  I might even buy a t-shirt. [:D]

I thought about getting the shirt for the bdsm convention but decided not to.

You say that like it is a bad thing. I imagine Bill Gates had a personal relationship with a garage when he was just starting out.  ;)

Actually, i am not at all surprised.  The T-shirts are ordered from a small coffee shop.  Around here (not sure how it is other places), many coffee shops are simply a very small building in a parking lot and only big enough for the supplies need to run the shop.  I imagine that yes they are sending them from a garage and the response has been so great and they have become very popular in a very very short period of time, that they are backlogged on orders.

An urban transit company I once drove for canvassed their drivers for an acronym / phone number for their phone info line. I suggested Transit Information Telephone Service. It made it to the short list...

A local tour company has a "Get On and Get Off" tourist trolley in town. At $4 for an all day pass it's way cheaper than the stroll.
