hi All,  another wee thought has popped in my head that i would like to ask about.  I was asked if i am masochistic and well i said no, because i don't think i am, but if aroused i like being flogged and cropped and caned etc and the more aroused i am the more i can take.......now  if someone hit me , or wacked me with an instrument for no apparent reason i am as likely to wack them right back as i don't like being hurt...so am i correct in saying i am not a painslut or masochistic?  lippy

greetings lippy,

part of it is going to be very much subjective. based on your situation i would draw the distinction at...DOES having pain inflicted on you when you are aroused (or in other specific contexts) make you more aroused? i know you said being aroused makes you more able to take pain...but does the pain have any effect on the arousal? that to me would be a somewhat helpful measure, i think :)

being a masochist doesn't necessarily mean you have to like all pain in all contexts. i love being switched, flogged, spanked, faceslapped, the list goes on, particularly when i am aroused and particularly in m/s and play contexts. that said, i have fibromyalgia, among many, many other chronic pain illnesses and my normal level of pain day-to-day (on a 1-10 scale, with 10 being the absolute worst) is about a 7. and i definitely don't enjoy that! but i still consider myself to be a masochist. i think that one does not have to be aroused by all types of pain in all contexts in order to be a masochist, personally.

respectfully,
annabelle.

thank you hisannabelle,  yes i would say the pain or flogging whatever does add to the arousal as time goes on greatly, it doesnt start of with pain though, i also have arthritus and  some days can rip my legs off happily cant cope with the pain, but that always seems a different kind of pain...avoided where humanely possible lol like paper cuts eww. lippy

Hello,

I personally think that all labels that we put on ourselves (and things around us for that matter) are subjective and therefore vary from person to person. Then, of course, there is room for some misunderstanding with that when you communicate with others and they have their own understanding of such labels.

I personally, can relate to what you say. There is a type of pain I absolutely love and crave (floggers, canes, crop, etc) but there are others I can not stand at all or very little. So I usually say - "I'm a masochist but not a painslut". Also because my pain-threshold is not that high.

That's only my view on those words :).

Hope that helps at all.

For me it's masochism.  You enjoy the pain directly as a pleasureable experience.  You just happen to need a warm up- most do.

i see masochism as interpreting what would normally be interpreted as pain as pleasure...i have a friend who "warms up" by being wailed away at with a huge oil tan flogger or other times by being booted in the ribs...but it doesn't "hurt"...it just feels good...she's a masochist...if it hurts, she doesn't want it...
i am a masochist and a pain slut...i don't always interpret pain input as pain, and even when i do, its still good....
but those are just my definitions....

I remember when I was getting my tattoo and my friend was watching.  When I said it hurt, she was like, 'But isn't it a *good* pain?'

I think she got the idea that it wasn't a good pain for me.... LOL

But I can be spanked to the point where I can't stand it anymore and still want more an hour later...

Greetings angelic,
I am a huge maso-pain slut.  I get off on pain, I love it.  But only good pain.  I don't relish broken bones or headaches or cramps.  Hit me with a hand or fist and I'm likely to hit you back.  But put a flogger in your hands and I'll melt like butter.

I think the original definitions of sadist and masochist kinda got lost in the whole new age bdsm shuffle thingy.  A sadist is one who derives satisfaction or sexual gratification from inflicting pain (although there was a disclaimer that it not need be consensual).  A masochist also derives satisfaction or sexual gratification from receiving pain...in a maso's view I think it most definitely has to be consensual or why the hell is she sitting there taking it?  A true maso does not necessarily cause herself pain or self-inflicted wounds as stereotypically thought, although some extreme cases do exist.

So relax and enjoy your flogging, you maso babe you :)

Being a masochist has nothing to do with liking and becoming aroused by all forms of pain. I am masochist but there are forms of pain I don't enjoy.  I get more arousal and enjoyment if it is a controlled situation with someone I am comfortable with.

anytime you use the word "true" you are usually applying an exclusive negative value judgement...don't....

i can't tell you if you are a masochist or not.  Although, i can't imagine someone getting any enjoyment from being flogged, cropped, and caned, without being a masochist.  i can tell you that i am a masochist and that doesn't mean that i enjoy all pain or that all pain turns me on.  There are different kinds of pain.  The kind of pain that it is, in what context i'm receiving the pain, and most importantly for me, who's administering the pain, are all factors in whether it feeds my masochism and turns me on and makes me want more or, if it just plain hurts and i want it to go away.  The pleasure sensation that i get from pain is always connected to fact that i'm recieving it from the person i'm serving in an intimate and sexual relationship. i guess you could say i'm selectively masochistic, if there is such a thing.  Just as i am a submissive woman and yet, i don't drop to my knees, open my mouth, and say, "Yes, Sir" to every man i meet, i am also a masochist and yet, i don't get wet and turned-on by stubbing my toe or hitting my thumb with a hammer.  But, the instant my Master grabs and pulls my hair or slaps my face or pinches and twists my nipples, i'm wet and sexually excited, because that kind of pain from the man i serve is a turn-on, it feeds my masochistic needs and i want more.

Edited to add:  The pain that turns me on does hurt.  It sometimes hurts a lot.  i scream and moan and jerk and jump from the pain my Master inflicts pain on me.  But, for me, that's the point.  Without the sensation of pain, there would be no pleasure sensations that follow.  Also, if i didn't scream and show my discomfort, my sadistic Master wouldn't be satisfied and would have to inflict more pain on me, until He did see that i was hurting.  That's what gets Him sexually excited, is seeing that He is causing me pain.  Feeling the pain He is inflicting on me, is what gets me sexually excited.  The pain doesn't feel good but, it causes very good feelings in me.

There is also the follow-up enjoyment that i receive from seeing the marks that He has left on my body.  The first thing i do, after He has whipped or flogged me or pinched or slapped me, is to go look in the mirror to see what designs He has left on my body.  Then i sometimes take pictures and then i show them off to Him, for days afterward.  i love seeing those reminders of what He did to me.

Greetings
first to My woman, I did enjoy our last visit ....pushing My doorway to the dark wider, and enjoying each step I took. The debrief with you was as always, refreshing and enlightening. I look forward to our next visit.
next...to joy...I took some pics and am awaiting some damn time to upload and fix them to be worth viewing. I found that also to be rewarding as I look upon them...and the next morning when My woman told Me after her shower...the hot water hurt...I liked it....now that made Me smile!

i do love the reminders and, pictures are a lasting reminder.  my Master also smiles when i tell Him how much something hurts and that automatically makes me smile.  Recently i did something stupid and forgot my sunblock when my Master took me fishing.  It was a beautiful sunny day, with a bright blue sky and a nice wind blowing.  The temperature was perfect and it felt so good to be outside and not sweating to death.  Five hours later, i looked like a boiled lobster, especially along my shoulders and collarbone.  To punish me for being so careless with His property, every time He walked by me, He poked a finger hard into my collarbone and it hurt so bad and when He saw how much it was hurting me, He had a huge smile and, even though i was in agony, i couldn't help but smile, too.

OOPS...sorry chellekitty...I plead sleep deprivation.  What would be closer is "the standard dictionary stereotypical definition of a masochist"  rather than the t word.  You are right.   smiles

Sometimes i feel like a nut, sometimes i dont.  it is funny but there are times i feel like a little pain slut, sometimes i can endure certains very well and when i feel at my strongest it always seems Mistress reaches for that cain and for some reason i can't take its touch for nothing in the world.  i once thought i was painslut masochist but then i saw a real pain slut get played and i realized i am just a new born puppy.
